Travel Tips from people who've been to Mersing
Mersing itselfs isn't that special. But I waited there to go to Endou- Romping National Park. I've choosen this national park, as it is less touristy. It took 3 days, until the company could do this trip. At the end, there was just an couple from Paris and me. In Endo-romping National park, we had a local guide. We stayed at some chalet in the nowhere close to a river. One night, there was school class from KL camping there, doing a kind of surviving camp. Otherwise we didn't met many people. For me it was an absolutely great experience. although the guide couln't speak english, with sign language we could understand each other. He led us to a waterfall, some waterholes, we had to go throug a river, pass wooden hanging bridges. he also showed us some plants. every evening, they brought the meal from there camp, but never ate with us.the boat trip to this secluded camp was also adventurous, as the boats were really small and the motor half broken. ..but who cares, if you are in the middle of a jungle, having nothing else to do, but to listen to the birds and admire the greenish the enviroment. Mersing is also the embarking point for several small islands, like pulau Tioman. the owner of the backpacker in Mersing told me, that on some of those island several european countrys filmed their "survival productions" there, like the island.

Mersing is a lonely village on the Malaysian side that faces the Island of (Pulau) Tioman. This is the place to take a fast boat to or reserve an accommodation on the island. Bring enough cash to have some spare, as there are very few possibilities to change, and the local exchange rate is not meant to make *you* rich. Also bring your stuff for the island, and make sure you don't forget the insect repellent; a cockroach spray would not hurt either.

Mersing - Mersing is a nice little Town in Malaysia. But there is not much to see. It's just the piont to go to the ferry if you're heading to Tioman Island (Palau Tioman). You can get there if you take a bus from most locations in Malaysia and Singapore. Tikets for the Ferry you'll get in some counters where the bsu stopps. There are speed boats and normal ones.
