Kidal is an interesting little town located in the Sahara north of Gao. It is a Toureg city and there are a number of traditional Toureg dwellings in and around the town. Due to the recent unrest in this area there is a huge military presence and all cars are searched as you enter the town. It's definitely a good idea to check the security situation before heading here.
