Marshall Islands

This Micronesian island nation is located in the western Pacific Ocean and comprises twenty nine atolls and five isolated islands. It is one of only four atoll nations in the world. The islands are spread out over almost 1 million square miles, meaning that the outer islands especially are very sparsely populated.  Traditional lifestyles still prevail. At one point the Marshall Islands served as an eastern defense perimeter for Japanese military forces.  Right now it’s a great tourist destination filled with a number of water activities and memorial sites for visiting. The Marshall Islands’ history of interaction with western civilization (Spaniards, British, Russians, Germans, Japanese and Americans) combined with Polynesian influences have resulted in a multicultural and flavourful cuisine.

Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands
Bikini Atoll , location of the US Nuclear Bomb tests that looked so spectacular when seen on the Television, but with such a devastating history. This history has left Scuba divers with something very special though, a number of pristine wrecks that amount to arguably the best Wreck diving location that it is possible to visit anywhere in the world.

Diving is awesome. Get the guys on the base to take you out. One day is definately not enough...so leaving via boat provides the most opportunites for diving if on short leave.
