Situated in the Tagant plateau, the town is now known primarily for date farming, but was once part of a group of villages occupied between 2000-800 BC.  From use of megafauna to generalized hunter gathering lifstyles, excavations in the area are revealing a lot about the past.

Tichit is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
