Mauritius People & Culture
Mauritius, Mauritius Don't forget to visit local supermarkets (not the Port Louis market, that one focusses on tourists ...) to buy a truck load of spices (much cheaper then in europe or anywhere else) You can rent a driver/guide for one day, but these people take you to all kinds of expensive shops where they get a commission, tell them before you leave that you are not interested in that kind of tour (unless of course you like to be ripped off ...) Good tip? (0) Mahebourg, Mauritius Island, Mauritius Beautiful little town close to the airport in Mauritius. Great for shopping in the local markets. Wonderful and friendly people. Take walk to Blue bay, it will take your breath away..........!! My favourite place in the world. Good tip? (0) Port Louis, Mauritius Island, Mauritius Port Louis is a busy town, with it's markets, loads of people and traffic but it also got a lot to offer for example the worlds second oldest horse track or a China town it even got it own fort placed on top of a small mountain that overlooks the city it's an amazing view. Good tip? (0) Mauritius Mauritius is a blend of diverse cultures and religions. The population consists of Hindus, Creole, Chinese, Muslims and Europeans Good tip? (0) Ile aux Cerfs, Mauritius Island, Mauritius if u go to mauritius, take time to use boat to enjoy good marlin fish meat onboard before arriving on ile aux cerfs famous for its beautiful more than blue water and quiet area. the water is more than 27° and even if u cant stay more than 2/3 hours on it the island is one of the most amazingly beautiful place i ever seen Good tip? (0) Chamarel, Mauritius Island, Mauritius Chamarel is a perfect downhill for sector 9... enjoy!!! Good tip? (0) Mauritius Island, Mauritius CANYONING : From simple circuit for novices to more technical ones, on full or half day, am or pm: - Cascade Rama, Eau Bleue, famous for its clear water and tropical flora: games in the water, jumps, 2 or 3 abseiling down waterfalls from 8 to 16 meters. - Tamarin Falls or Seven Cascades offer breathtaking views on the west part of the island: alternation of river walking, jumping and abseiling down 3 to 7 waterfalls, from 8 to 55 meters. HIKING – TREKKING - WALKS : Enjoy breathtaking views while trekking to the highest mountain of the island, Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, or through Mountain Lion in the south east, or while hiking in the National Park of Gorges de la Rivière Noire, or during coastal walks around the island... Good tip? (0) Tamarin, Mauritius Island, Mauritius The Hotel Tamarin at Tamarin, Mauritius is a great place for exploring the west and south of Mauritius. The hotel has trips available for dolphin watching, Ile aux Benitiers (snorkelling and BBQ lunch), cycling, a wide range of activities and great food. Different buffets every night. Get at least half board if you can. If you dont like the arranged stuff go and hire a taxi for a day. The Hotel featured quality jazz bands on most nights that I was there with support vocalists on some nights. Tamarin itself has a good surfing beach, Tamarin hill, as well as being close to attractions such as Flic en Flac, Casela Nature Park, Chamarel, Curepipe, Quatre Bornes, Port Louis etc. Thoroughly recommended Good tip? Good tip? (+1) Ile Cocos, Rodrigues Island, Mauritius This is a small sand island that is a little more than an hour west of Rodrigues. Ile Cocos is a nature reserve so there is no overnight camping and you need to have a permit to visit. I really enjoyed walking around the island along it's paths. For some reason it seemed to me that colours were just a bit more intense here. If you do go to Rodrigues island, Ile Cocos is a great little day trip. Good tip? Good tip? (0) Mauritius, Mauritius Such a small island... so beautifull, in the december - january season! A lot to do and a lot to visit. In the north is the weather and climat very nice. 3h difference with europe.
To do some shopping, you go to 'Gran Bay' touristic or to 'Port Louis' where you can find almost everything.
Mauritius is also known for their famous extra big beautifull hotels of high quality.
There aren't that much farmacies and they do have other products. Good tip? (0) Verdun, Mauritius Island, Mauritius C'est un haut lieu d'histoire et un symbole de paix. Good tip? (0) Bradt Travel Guides |
