Mexican people have a very interesting tradition that they perform during the New Year period. First, all of the boys dress up as old men and go dancing in the streets and it is a custom to give them money. Then, on New Year's Eve, all of the families bring out a doll which resembles an old man, stuffed with fire crackers. Ten seconds before the New Year arrives, they put it on the street, light it on fire, so it explodes exactly at midnight. This is to symbolizes old year leaving and taking all the negative things with it. WARRNING: From 12 until 12:30 on that day, do NOT go anywhere, as people also fire their guns. There was an incident of a very young girl being killed a few years ago.
