Travel Tips from people who've been to Guadalajara
So for starters... definitely bring a back pack or something because you will find plenty of things to buy. Learn how there money system works because pesos dont add the same as american currency. If you dont know what your doing then some places will rip you off without even knowing it. Dont pee in public places because you will have to pay 10 pesos, oh and you cant flush the toilet paper! GROSS But if you take the initiative and try and learn spanish and communicate with the locals, you will gain great respect and get the hook up on shit. Oh and dont eat at rest because there over priced. stick to the little tacos places. 14 tacos for 100 pesos... now thats a great deal. Oh and pull money out of the local atm because if you do it in the states you will be charged high rate for exchanging your dollars into pesos. dont bring nay american money... its pointless! Oh and be prepared to walk everywhere. taxes are an alright way to travel, but it adds up. Just walk everywhere.Thats what the locals do. But dont rent a car. its like 500 a week for a shitty geo. Good tip? (0) Guadalajara has hands down the best food in all of Mexico! The grilled chicken, The tacos, the ice cream, tortas, and yes even the hot dogs are the best on earth! You'll be blown away by the food. The nightlife is ok. The best part is that if you buy alcohol they feed you for free at the bars. Estraya beer is the best beer. I don't think the city is that pretty execpt for the central part, the zoo, and canyon. But the food is totatlly different from what most americans think of a "mexican food". The true mexican food in Guadalajara is totally different and much better! You wont believe it until you try it. I get hungry just thinking about it! Good tip? (0) Best way to experience the city is to rent a car. The main highway is called the "ring highway" in spanish because it literally goes all around the outskirt of the city in a big circle...then you have a 2ndery ring highway just inside the city...from there become familiar with the destination names on the signs...this is the best way to know if you are heading east west north or south. You can't get lost in this city...eventually you'll meet up with the Ring Highway and the adventure begins again. Good tip? (0)
