Mexico City, the capital and most populous city of Mexico , is also theoutstanding industrial and cultural centre of that country. With a population exceeding 19 million, the city is the second largest metropolitan area in the Americas and the third largest in the world.. Mexico City is situated in the Valley of Mexico , also known as the Valley of Anahuac , in the high plateaus of central Mexico at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. Originally named Tenochtitlan , having been built by the Aztecs in the 14th century, the city was totally destroyed in the siege of 1521. It was then redesigned and rebuilt by the Spanish and, although little remains of its Aztec origin, the city has numerous monuments of the Spanish colonial era.

Questions answered about visiting Mexico City
Moving to mexico df, insider tips much appreciated. What is best thing to do and see in mexico city
I'm planning a trip to Mexico--I've got 2 weeks and want to start in Mexico City, but also want a low-budget, non-touristy beach locale on the agenda as well. Any advice? Ask a travel question about Mexico City
Travel Tips from people who've been to Mexico City
Everybody says Mexico City is an extremly dangerous city, but from my
experience I can tell you, that as long as you don't run around in
expensive clothes and shoes without any jewelry, noboy will do you any
harm. Actually it's the opposite: Mexicans are warm hearted people how
are very proud of their country, and especially of Mexico City, and
like to share their knowledge of it with everybody! Very important to see, besides the usual things you can read in every guide, are the different markets in different parts of the town (especially the "TEPITO" market. Also very interesting are the little Taco Bars in the streets. Don't think about what to eat. Just eat and then ask! Good tip? (+5) Save time for museum hopping. There are more museums in Mexico City that you could possibly count. We found gallery after gallery just walking down the street. Admission was as little as a dollar. Good tip? (+1) buldog cafe
the coolest place in town- young people, live rock bands. expensive cover (27us$)- but cool drinks Good tip? (+1)
