Travel Tips from people who've been to Western Central Highlands
Morelia is a safe and beautifully preserved colonial Mexican City that was formerly called Valladolid when Mexico was a Spanish Colony.  Morelia was an exceedingly rich city due to the abundance of silver in the region.  All of the buildings in the zocalo are made out of a pink-tinted stone.

Relax in Morelia, don't be in a hurry, and don't worry about your safety despite the recent violence.  A luxury hotel in a Colonial building will run you about $65.00.

The center of the city is a historic preservation zone and no cars are allowed!

Huasca de Ocampo. Pachuca, Hidalgo It's a village next to"Real del Monte" in Pachuca, Hidalgo. There're rural cabins in which one can enjoy a resting time in the mountain and awakening a beautiful sight to a lake. You can move easuly to "Real del Monte" (the following village) where you can explore a museum inside a mine to 180mts below of the soil. Likewise it's an attractive enough and advisable tour; and then you could eat a rich "paste" in every restaurant of preference.

Paracho is the luthier capital of Mexico - a great place to go if you wanna buy a cheap and good guitar (or a vihuela or one of these huge bass guitars the marriachis use or any other stringed instrument) or if you just want to have a look into a guitar builders workshop or if you are just interested in music in general. It's an easy bus ride (about 1 hour) from Uruapan.
