The Middle East is a land full of ancient history, vibrant cultures, and unfortunately sometimes conflict.  At the same time, oil wealth has made some Middle East countries full of wealthy gleaming metropolises.

Ancient history enthusiasts will want to visit places such as Jerusalem, a city revered by Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Visiting this old city will bring you back 2000 years.  For another ancient thrill, go to the rock-carved city of Petra in Jordan.  It was featured in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  If you haven't seen too much history yet, there is also Iran's Persepolis, once a capital of the Persian Empire.

For a taste of ultra-modernity instead, visit Dubai with its massive Mall of the Emirates and indoor ski area, as well as the world's tallest structure - the Burj Dubai.   For a taste of a traditional culture, visit Yemen and see the Yemenites with their khat chewing and jambiya daggers.

Nature lovers will enjoy the breathtaking mountains and valleys of Wadi Rum, as well floating on the Dead Sea, and taking a trip through the desert.  Don't venture too far though, since the Empty Quarter is one of the largest sand deserts in the world.

What's an off-beat place in the Middle East that you suggest traveling. Egypt and Jordan are nice, but I'm not big on the touristy spots...

It's stinking hot!  If your travelling over there.  DO NOT bring alcohol with you or magazine showing part of womens body, Christmas music or religious stuff like a cross.  My friend was thrown in jail because he had Christmas music in his suit case!!!  Do what they say.  No room for negociation.  Be prepare to receive proposal to buy your wife or girlfriend.  I know someone that was offered camels and gold for his wife.  He just flip mad when he was told no.

When buying things...HAGGLE HAGGLE HAGGLE! Never settle for the price that someone gives you. They'll think you're strange if you don't. And if they seem really insistant on the price, walk away...they'll rethink and call you back if they think they're going to lose the sale.
