Montenegro Travel Guide

Situated in the Balkans on the Adriatic Sea, Montenegro is popular for its coastal regions, featuring 72km of beaches and numerous well preserved old towns.  Highlights include the old town of Kotor – one of the best preserved medieval towns around and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Boka Bay, considered one of the prettiest bays around, or the Budva Riviera, a popular destination with sunbathers.  Stay active into the evening, by taking part of the vibrant nightlife, or get some rest in preparation for seeing more sights, including the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, the Basilica of Saint Luke, Our Lady of the Rocks, and the Savina Monastery.  Heading inland, Skardar Lake is a wildlife reserve perfect for nature lovers, and further north, the mountainous terrain of Durmitor and Bjelasica are ideal for treks in the summer and skiing in the winter.  Alternatively, the Tara River Canyon – the second deepest in the world is a great rafting destination.  This small country is awaiting rediscovery on a large scale to travellers worldwide.
