Jimi Hendrix hung out here. It is a fine surfing beach. And the best thing is that you don't attract too much attention as a westerner.

If you want to relax and see the sunset, this is just the right place for you. You don't feel that you need to be on guard at all. You can just stroll in the streets of the medina and enjoy the exotic features of this town by the sea.

Just outside the city walls is a small christian cemetery. It has got walls around it and a gate. An old gatekeeper will open the gate for you (and expect approx 10 dirham) Its a beautiful little cemetery. All the graves are dirty and falling apart but thats the beauty of it ! if you peak over the walls you have an excellent sea view. The cemetery is just outside Bab Doukkala

The Medina is so beautiful, mythological, old world, enchanting. When we first arrived we walked down the cobblestone alley and peered into a very small arched doorway with candlelight emanating from within. We would regularly get lost in the Medina, during the day it was a sensory delight of colours, smells and activity. By night it was mysterious and alluring, we would walk down a maze of small alleys until we found a doorway, pushed it open creakily and literally stepped into what appeared to be a castle in a fortified area of the Medina. Essaouira is a magical place that changed my life. I will hold it in my heart forever xo

Took a bus here from Marrakech. We had met a girl who lived here while waiting for the train in Tangier. We ended up staying with her family and her mom cooked us an excellent chicken and potato tangine. Her mom also took us to a hammam, not a tourist one, where we used big buckets of hot water to scrub each other down. Not a spa experience but we felt nice and clean afterwards which was great. Apparently there is good surfing south of here, another girl we had met in Tangier was going south to meet some of her friends from Switzerland. I would love to return and visit my friend Kaoutar Souah. Ask for her, everyone seems to know her :)
