Travel Tips from people who've been to Yangon
4th of jan. Independance day. Many podiums in the streets, Streets shown managed by the unhabitants of the close streets only, even they have to pay 1.000 $ to get municipality approval. Loud and indinstinct music, funny choregraphies. Nice and so friendly people ; taking care of the european tourist, happy we can be interested in them. Thousands of pictures with them and their spoil teeth.
It was a nice night ! Good tip? (0) Yangoon/Rangoon is a still developing city, and many of the city's problems are due to an evil military government which embezzles the profits off the nation's national resources. On the contrary, the people of Myanmar are extremely kind-hearted and polite, and they have a beautiful culture. Definitely worth a visit if at all possible despite the recent instability in the region. Good tip? (0) Not sure if this is still the case but you get a far better exchange rate on the street (black market) in yangon, than the airport where you are supposed to change your money. Take plenty because there are no ATM or cash machines anywhere in burma, plus only take crisp US dollers. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Yangon
