Namibia People & Culture
Swakopmund, Northwestern Namibia, Namibia Wonderful city, very german a nice people Good tip? (0) Luderitz, Southern Namibia, Namibia Kolmanskop - Take a guided tour around this interesting ghost town, just outside the town of Luderitz. Once the centre of a booming diamond rush, this town had all the latest modern conveniences shipped out from Germany so that the residents could live in the lap of luxury. Hard to believe that from 1908 this town was a hive of feverish mining activity, as people made fortunes from the diamond rich earth. All moved on however when even better prospects were discovered in Kimberley, South Africa. Good tip? (0) Namibia Namibia is my favourite place in the whole world. Divers landscapes, silence, peace and friendly people. You need to see the red sanddunes of Sossusvlei, the granite 'koppies' in the Namib Desert and Etosha, an outstanding wildlife park. We got married at Mount Etjo Safari Lodge. A place everyone should experience! Good tip? (0) Namibia This is the place where you can fulfill your African dreams. You're free to travel on your own. You can find your way easily and in the same time you are in full nature or wilderness. You can find supplies in most of the towns and head of for the bush for as long as you wish. You'll find a absolutly stunning and exciting landscape all over the country. And if you wish to see animals there is Etosha N.P. with its enormous variety of wildlife. You can meet wonderful people and at same time have a most delicious meal in a very fancy restaurant. and.... and.... and
Contact me to know more about my favorite place on earth. Good tip? (0) Swakopmund, Northwestern Namibia, Namibia make sure you have lots of extra time to spend here as there is so much to do... it is a bit of an oasis when you have been on the road in namibia for a while, so make the most of civilisation! quad biking around the dunes and sandboarding is a great laugh... oh and the giant steaks and beer... Good tip? (0) Walvisbaai, Northwestern Namibia, Namibia Walvisbay in Namibia is definitely one of the world's most remote locations and getting there is anything but easy. BUT, if you ever get there, you will be well-rewarded. You can head out into the Namib desert (the world's oldest) or you can canoe on the lagoon which is literally covered in pink flamingoes. You will be left breathless by these magnificent birds. At different times during the day they will lift from the water like a huge, pink cloud...you will NEVER experience anything like it anywhere else in the world. You can obviously go fishing. Horseback or camel rides in the dunes are fun. Protea Hotel is the perfect place to stay: it is small (about 30 rooms), unpretentious and colorful. The food is wonderful. Good tip? (0) Aus, Southern Namibia, Namibia Stay at the Klein Aus Guest Farm about two miles from Aus. We opted for a rock cabin but you can upscale if you wish. The cooking at the farm is outstanding!! This is one of the most interesting parts of Namibia where the Aus Mountains meet the desert. Take a hike or if you not adventurously inclined, a drive through the desert to explor the Namib, the world's oldest desert and, some say, the cradle of humankind. Good tip? (0) Swakopmund, Northwestern Namibia, Namibia What a beautiful little desert town. So much to do (skydiving, dune hiking, quad biking, etc) and so much to just soak up ocean and desert... Good tip? (0) Walvisbaai, Northwestern Namibia, Namibia An excellent place to see Pink Flamingos...make sure you take lots more film/memory cards than you think you need, as it can be addictive taking photos of these beautiful birds when they are so close up. Go for a drive out past the salt flats to the beach too - you may also see seals. Good tip? (+1) Swakopmund, Northwestern Namibia, Namibia Swakopmund is a true oasis. Let's face it, by the time you get here you probably haven't had a shower in a while, so treat yourself to a movie, some shopping, and a few drinks in the nightclub but don't forget to get out of town and do some very cool extreme style stuff. In my opinion this is the place if you're ever gonna skydive - absolutely stunning. Save some $$$ for Swakopmund. Good tip? (+1) Windhoek, Windhoek & Central Namibia, Namibia Joe's Beerhouse is a wonderful place at night to eat some Zebra or a german schweinshaxe outdoors around fireplaces. Namibian lager beer is great. Good tip? (+1) Windhoek, Windhoek & Central Namibia, Namibia joe's beergarden is great!! Good tip? (0) Cape Cross, Northwestern Namibia, Namibia Seals are adorable but they do pong a bit, pack your strongest stomach and maybe vist before lunch. Also, during pupping season tragedy can unfold before your eyes. It's Africa - the circle of life is always evident! Good tip? (0) Bradt Travel Guides |
