People in Bhaktapur
Bhaktapur, Nepal
Bhaktapur is a museum, a movie set and another world all at the same time . Built from red brick with intricately carved wooden structures, temples, lively markets, narrow lane ways and flaming colours are an overload on your senses. Perfect for experiencing true Nepali life in an unspoiled Nepali city, Bhaktapur is the most memorable city. Bhaktapur is the religious heart of Nepal, where the people rise at 3 o'clock every morning to pray. If you're staying the night, you too will be woken up, to the sound of bells ringing all over the city. The town is World Heritage listed and is home to Nepal's tallest temple, Nyatapol Temple standing 30 metres tall.

Kathmandu, Nepal
These are some of the poorest and yet most content people I have met. It is a place visually rich in color, texture and faces. Be generous when you tip. They have nothing and your money will be spent on vitals. Their money is worth nothing - for example you can buy a beautiful hand knit wool sweater there for about the equivalent of two canadian dollars.

Kathmandu, Nepal
nepali people tend to go to bed early, so everything closes pretty early, even in Thamel.(or maybe that only happens when its off-season) but there are some pubs which i would recommend to everyone, being "ktm pub" and "Sam's bar". in the pub, there's a nice live band, and sam's bar is just great, people can write thoughts, quotes, whatever on the walls. it's a little hard to find though.

Kathmandu, Nepal
A very overcrowded, polluted, hectic city. Lots of noise, traffic jams, many people offering goods for money. Children lying and playing in the streets. The rivers were smelly and diseased. Monkeys roamed the streets and was very unsightly. There were rats in the restaurants and many flies. It was an experience but I wouldn't go there again.

Bhaktapur Culture
Patan, Nepal
Patan is the sistercity of Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, and one of the 3 royal cities in Nepal (Kathmandu, Patan and Bakhtapur). The whole Kathmandu valley is really worth a visit, although the air quality is not the best. There is a lot to see: from old palaces to stupas and cremation areas, where the dead are burnt. Good Nepali food and very cheap. Even though there were quite a few security issues, the place is nonetheless safe to travel, above all since the political situation completely changed. Served by Qatar Airways, Royal Nepal, Yeti Airlines, Druk Air, Air india, Thai Airways,...

Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu is a typical 3rd world city. There is the busy tourist and backpackers that are packed with locals trying to give tours and sell you souvenirs. Thamel is were most budget backpackers call home there are lots of accommodations ranging from 200 rupees beds to nicer mid range hotels. If you can get over the poverty and constant horns of the motorcycles there is a lot of history in the Kathmandu Valley. If your short on time make it to Dunbar Square were you can get a good sense of the architecture and culture. Kathmandu is the take off point for all treks into the Himalayas, so there are hundreds of Trekking Company's and outdoor shops. If you have a week or more of spare time head to the hills and enjoys life at a slower pace. After a week I fell in love with Kathmandu, the people of Nepal are very nice and the sites are amazing. If you are heading threw please take a few days to enjoy this amazing city.

Patan, Nepal
Just to clarify things, since there are several towns with this name, I'm talking about Patan Lalitpur, on of the major cities in Nepal. The place would take weeks to be fully appreciated as it's rich in culture, art and history. Patan is renowned as a very artistic city. Most of the Nepalese art of any form is devoted to Gods, and there are an abundance of temples and vihara in the city. Notable places of interest (the basics that I recommend too visit) include : Patan Durbar Square : The residence of the Malla rulers of the then Patan state which is now converted into a museum. Hiranya Varna Mahaa Vihar : A Buddhist temple known locally as Golden temple Rudra Varna Mahavihar Mahaboudha Temple Banglamukhi temple : A Hindu temple Kumbeshwor temple : One of the two five-story pagoda temples of the valley If you can, spend at least a week there to fully absorb the local culture and outlook in life, which is rather interesting...

Bhaktapur Sports
Kathmandu, Nepal
The city itself is a sight to behold. Fascinating temples and shrines. A must-see are the sculpture gardens scattered all ever the urban settlement. The very best thing to do, though, is hiring a sherpa, put a well-equipped backpack on your shoulders and go trekking and climbing. The world's best climbing spots are to be found around or close to Kathmandu. The views from the various mountain tops are simply mind-boggling!! Don't miss the Fish Tail Trail. And don't forget to bring along heavy clothes, extra socks and warm gloves. Hypotermia can be subtle at those altitudes.

Kathmandu, Nepal
Bargain! There are places where you can find great pashmina shawls or hiking and mountain climbing equipment at dirt low prices and it is the original thing, but just with less added value or profit for the seller.

Pashupatinath, Nepal
A great destination that's easily reachable by taxi from Kathmandu. The ghats and temples are really beautiful, but my favorite part was the troop of monkeys that came bounding down the steps. Great place to spend an afternoon.

Kathmandu, Nepal
You have to get up very early for Mt. Everest flight and the power is usually out until 7am-8am in Kathmandu. So prepare the night before!! Wash and dry your hair and bring any make-up to the airport with you and put it on there.

Also, back your bag the night before too and make sure you have your camera, extra battery, warm clothes, snack laid out since getting ready by flashlight can be challenging!!

Bhaktapur Government
Kathmandu, Nepal
The mythical melds with the modern. Kathmandu is really two cities: a fabled capital of convivial pilgrims and carved rose-brick temples, and a frenetic sprawl of modern towers, mobbed by beggars and monkeys and smothered in diesel fumes. It simultaneously reeks of history and the encroaching wear and tear of the modern world. Travel Warning: Political Instability - Anti-China Protests - General Security Travellers to Kathmandu are advised to exercise caution and steer clear of any large public gatherings. Just three weeks after the abolition of Nepal's monarchy, there is still no official head of State, the government is consumed by infighting, and there is increasing consumer anger over rising fuel costs. Following recent riots and demonstrations in Tibet, Tibetan exiles in Kathmandu staged three protests in one week. Nepalese authorities have adopted a zero-tolerance attitude towards the protesters. Although the Maoist insurgency has ended, travellers should monitor the situation and keep abreast of warnings. severity: Mid-level alert When I travel 20 years ago was a beaufitul and peaceful place save to travel. How everything change. Mystical and beauty. Another favorite place.
