Travel Tips for Transportation in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Nepal
If travelling on buses in Nepal, rather than be uncomfortable AND miss the view, sit on the roof with the locals. This was a highlight of both my trips to Nepal as you get a bird's eye view into farm houses, forests, waterfalls etc.

Kathmandu, Nepal
When we were traveling around Nepal, the buses were usually jam-packed with people. To avoid the overcrowding inside we chose to ride outside instead - on the roof! Doing this within Kathmandu itself isn't recommended, but outside of the city you can get away with it. We used this option whenever we got the chance and I wish you could do the same at home too! It sure made some of the 3-4 hour bus rides we took a lot more fun, and you have a great view when you're driving on the mountain roads.

Kathmandu, Nepal
There is NEVER really a wrong time to go to Nepal. However if you want to see more festivals I suggest going in the fall because (especially in November) there is always a festival somewhere during that time of year. When I went I went through the Fulbright program with my father, so our driver was our translator, driver, tour guide and all around good friend. But through all the gross bus travels, bad toilet stops, and not so fine hotels I really fell in love with the place!!
