Travel Tips from people who've been to Lukla
Lukla is the airport where you land if you are trekking to Mt Everest which is located in Sagarmatha Park.  The airport is located at about 9,000ft and consists of a short, gravel runway that makes up for its shortness by sloping upward at about a 10 degree angle.  The approach to Lukla requires flying up long, narrow valleys and taking a hard right at the last minute and throwing the plane into the side of this hill and praying that the gravel and the slope will slow the plane down.  Of course once you are on the ground, you immediately begin to think about what it will be like to take off from there. Lukla is very crowded with people about to begin their trek and people who have just finished theirs.  Leaving Lukla requires a certain amount of flexibility because their is no such thing as a confirmed seat.  People routinely get bumped from a flight and end up camping another night hoping to catch a flight the next day.  Traveling with an organized group (like Mt Travel-Sobek) improves your odds of getting on a flight.

Lukla was better when the landing stip was dirt and not concrete, its either the start or end of a great trip, either way lukla is cool. Stay away from the shops that sell cakes!!!
