Travel Tips for Transportation in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Amsterdam & Noord Holland, Netherlands
When the weather is good: rent a waterbike or a small boat to go over the canals. It's the best way to discover Amsterdam. If you rent a boat: take wine and food, it's what everybody does :-)
Also go biking through the city; its the fastest way to get around. Taxis are relatively expensive and the public transport doesn't take you everywhere..

whatever you do, get your train/tram tickets from the airport into amdam via the counter agent, NOT from the ticket machine. i was trying to be independent and grabbed the wrong ticket and wound up paying a large fine (about 50usd) and they are happy to escort you to the atm to withdraw the funds to pay said fine, tyvm!

Amsterdaaaaam!

yes, i can imagine that u can get stuck in a coffeeshop for ur whole trip. but maybe it's an idea to check out the city itself, before you do that. it's a shame to see everything completely stoned, because than u can't remember anything except for the photo's u took. just walk around, the inner centre is ok, but try to get into the canal area: de 9 straatjes (9 lil streets), jordaan. both of them have very good, not that expensive restaurants and bars and cool boutiques with whatever u want. good museum is stedelijk museum, which is (still) next to central station. locals all speak English, and mostly open for a conversation or asked directions. try to get hold on a "strippenkaart" which is much cheaper to go by bus or tram than buying a ticket everytime u get on.
