Travel Tips from people who've been to Edam
Incredible fishing village!  I have never seen such a sight as this. Impeccable community (small) with farms on the outskirts (sheep) and a village with small shops, small houses with roofs the shape of the holland hats that flare out at the ends.  In the village center stands the tall spires of a church.  Laundry blows in the breeze, a child was stepping into a small boat in a canal that winds through the village. At the back of the village, near the coast, I found fish stands, selling fried fish, and fishermen with those big beautiful sail boats mending their nets and working on their ships.  It was all so clean and tidy even in the harbor.  No house was up for sale.  I think these people grew right from the ground.  It seemed they had no beginning or end.  If you go to Amsterdam,  you must see this village.  I took a bus on my own (not with a tour group) and it is imbedded in my mind forever as my most favorite place in Amsterdam.  It was perfect.

Make sure to take home some cheese... it comes in like a million different flavours and lasts forever as long as its not opened, so you have no excuse.
