Travel Tips for History of Eastern Netherlands

Arnhem, Eastern Netherlands, Netherlands
A typical Dutch city with much to offer. History: critical battles during WW2. Culturaly: fashion capital of the Netherlands with Academy of Arts. Shopping: a nice centered shopping area (traffic free!) with lots of small boutiques as well as all the big brands. And most important: lots and lots of restaurants, cafe's, bars and disco's, all centered around the square 'De Korenmarkt'.

Nijmegen, Eastern Netherlands, Netherlands
Beautifull old town of roman origin. Has a lovely weekly market, several museums and historical buildings and a casino.

Vroomshoop, Eastern Netherlands, Netherlands
Vroomshoop is a quiet little town near a canal. It has'n got a lot of history and actually it is quite a boring little town. Nevertheless it's a good place to relax when you go for the lovely food at a certain spot that unfortanately cannot be revealed. It's nice to do some shopping, because for such a small town they've got quite a few shops. If you really want to interact with the locals you might consider taking a beer at night in the local Pub called Kremer. You probably don't have to pay for your drinks at all because people are quite generous and will offer you drinks all the time. So you have to drink at a fast speed to keep up with the locals. After a night of drinking you might consider making a long walk in the woods the next day. De Zandstuve is probably the only place where you can rent a little house to spend the night or a few days. Because Vroomshoop hasn't got any hotels.

Zutphen, Eastern Netherlands, Netherlands
City tours are available from the travel office- but I found it to be quite disappointing. Very little detail or history provided.
