Travel Tips from people who've been to Utrecht Region
In Holland, the center of the city is called Centrum. Utrecht is located in the middle of Holland, and trains from major cities in Europe usually stop there. The central train station is located near a shopping mall called de Hooge Catharijne. Shops are open until 6 pm, except for every Thursday nights which is called koopavond, shops are open until 8pm  to 9pm. Shops are closed on Sundays, except for the first Sunday of the month (koopzondag). Utrecht centrum has got plenty of good restaurants, some of which are (with Michelin stars): Eggy and Dish (European style offering), located at the heart of Utrecht centrum. Try their deserts! It is pretty safe to walk in Utrecht centrum, however, when you walk late at night there can be beggars asking money to buy drugs (well they don't say they will buy drugs, but usually that's what they will buy). Just be sure that you don't give these beggars money. The bus station is located near the central station as well. Buses takes you to residential areas in Utrecht. It is advisable to consult 9292ov or www.ns.nl when travelling in Holland to check bus numbers, trains and their schedules. The major downside of these website is that they are written in Dutch. But you can consult Babelfish for rough translation. Some tips: vertrek means departure, aankomst means arrival. Vertraging means delay. Have a good few days in Utrecht, it's a beautiful city.

Utrecht is a friendly student city. It dates further back than the middel ages. With it´s rich history en beautiful city centre it really is worth visiting. The city center is easily accesible from the central trainstation. The Utrecht Central Station is THE central for travelling by train. All trains lead to and from Utrecht, also international trains. In the city there are nice shops and cafe´s to visit. These are far to many and diverse to list here. They are all surrounding the uniek Dutch canals in the city center is build around. Along its banks you cvan enjoy a nice meal while you watch all sorts of boats float by. You can also rent one for your self and view Utrecht from the water.

I cannot stress enough that ALL OF HOLLAND HAS COFFEE SHOPS!! Seriously, get out of Amsterdam. Utrecht is much cleaner. It has a sweet church tower with a coffee chop just around the corner near the canals. There is also a cool art gallery and across the road is the Dick Bruna gallery, the creator of Miffy. He lives in Utrecht. His museum is one of the best things about Utrecht. Buy a museum card from free access to many many great museums for a year. Other than that Utrecht is just a nice city. Like all dutch cities they have market days too, just outside the train station/ mall. Eat a fresh stroopwaffel! And buy a pack from a supermarket too.
