Planning a Trip to Norway

Norway Internet & Communications
Internet is readily accessible throughout Norway - even far off small towns like Sommaroy have wifi in their hotel.  You can expect to find internet access and wifi at most accommodations - some free with a daily access card, others for a fee.  Libraries and Universities often also offer internet.

Bergen is one of the most beautiful Cities in Norway even though it is the most rainy city as well. Very famous is the fishmarket which is located in the heart of the City and the FLoibahn. The Fishmarket is opened daily from 9 - 18 hrs and you can find everything even Whale meat. In some of the Hotels you can find Wireless Internet for free and in the near Cruise Terminal you can find all kind of Cruise Ships everyday. You can Change Money at the Money Exchange office or at the Bank but be careful: Banks are closed on Sundays. Norway in General is quite expensive, you better visit Bergen in August and September because then you pay just half of the prices for nearly everything.

Drobak, East Norway, Norway
Meet the Julenissen - the Norwegian Santa- at Drobak, a little town about 35 minutes drive south of Oslo. You can send a letter or card from the Christmas house official post office and stamp it with the official Christmas stamp. The town also invites you to take a walk around in narrow streets between beautiful restored houses from the 18th century.

Best Time to Visit Norway
Tromso, Far North Norway, Norway
A good period to see the Aurora Borealis is around is between October and March. March is actually the best time as you still have considerable light before the 6 pm to 12 pm aurora borealis time. I was there on April 4 and was just lucky to see one. To maximise your chance of seeing the Aurora, try to stay there for 3 to 4 nights. I found April to be a rewarding time to visit as there weren't too much tourists... I was a bit worried at first because of the didminished chance of seing the Aurora, at this period they lose around d minutes of darkness everyday.

Oslo, East Norway, Norway
It is soooo expensive but at the same time so beautiful! it worths it! The best thing is the Vigeland Park. All sculptures are wonderful and the park is perfectly asimetric. The city is clean and if it is sunny you can go to a near beach to have a very cold bath in the north sea.

It's much cheaper to eat at the 7-11 and other types of local convenience stores than the restaurants. Eat your big fancy meal at lunch and then get a hotdog or pasta for dinner. Yes, they sell noodles and pasta at convenience stores, as well as bacon wrapped hot dogs!

Bergen, West Norway, Norway
It is really nice to go up Mount Ulriken and hike around. Beautiful scenery and views. Actually the whole of Bergen is very pleasant to walk around.

Andalsnes, West Norway, Norway
If you've been here, you have either been to, or are heading to "trollstigen" and Geiranger....easily the most beautiful place on the planet! Bit scary though to be driving along the edge of a fjord and peeking over the side to see a 1000 meter sheer drop. I was hangin' onto the "jesus bars" the whole way up...and down.

If you happen to visit Tromsø in Summer, head over to the Tromsdalen Kirke (The Arctic Cathedral). They have classical music recital at midnight - it's an exhilaration of senses to be experienced! Your body says that it's midnight and that you should be in bed, however your mind is still very much alert because of the sunlight streaming through the window at the church. On the way back to the city, walk across the bridge and enjoy the view ... It's something to remember!
