People in West Norway
Tau, West Norway, Norway
Small and quiet village (some 2,500 people) located 20 mins. by ferry from Stavanger, and 25 mins. by car from Preikestolhytta ("Pulpit Rock Cabin"), where the hike to Preikestolen starts. Cafe/ pub by the ferry quay, one hotel (named after local celebrity Erik Blood-axe) and an old park with art exibits in an old barn. Activities every Sunday in the park/ barn during the summer.

Volda, West Norway, Norway
Enjoy real nature and go for a walk or rend a small boat and go fishing.
The people are friendly and most of them speak a bit English.

Bergen, West Norway, Norway
The people in Bergen are very nice and accommodating. Bergen has a small town feel without being that small. The local bakeries are fantastic (not a place to go if you are on a diet), there is a daily market on the harbor, and the scenery is beautiful. Pack warm and watch out for the trolls, :).

West Norway Arts & Recreation
Bergen, West Norway, Norway
For music lovers please go to the Grieg Museum at Troldhaugen, not far away from Bergen by bus. It's worth a visit if you want to know more about the composer's life and environment.

Bergen, West Norway, Norway
this is an absolutely lovely town; perched on the edge of the water, seeped w/ Viking history; everyone i met was extremely kind incredibly well educated (had a 2.5hr conversation about world politics, music, art the environment w/ two 18 year olds! find THAT in the US on a random corner!).
Overall, i LOVED Bergen... but, check your timing, I was told that i was lucky to be there when it wasn't raining
would also recommend a Kayak trip off the coast North of Bergen- easy to find an outfit to take you out, great, experienced guides for reasonable rates and unbeatable scenery

Bergen, West Norway, Norway
1st and foremost... go there if you are anywhere near. A fun cheap day experience in Bergen is to take the funicular railway to the top of Fløyen then hike down the backside back into town. Make sure and bring water and lunch, you can pick up some goodies in the wharf before you head up. Have fun!!

Andalsnes, West Norway, Norway
If you've been here, you have either been to, or are heading to "trollstigen" and Geiranger....easily the most beautiful place on the planet! Bit scary though to be driving along the edge of a fjord and peeking over the side to see a 1000 meter sheer drop. I was hangin' onto the "jesus bars" the whole way up...and down.

Stavanger, West Norway, Norway
When arriving at Stavanger airport, get your money from an ATM in the airport.. No money exchange counter that I could find, so this is your only option if don't already have kroner.
Also, take the green bus (#9 route) into Stavanger town if you want to save money (29 kroner or roughly $6). The airport shuttle (Flybussen) runs more frequently and will get you there quicker (20 minutes as opposed to 40 minutes) but it will cost you about three times as much (85 kroner or $15). On Sundays, the #9 bus doesn't run, so the airport shuttle is your only option.

Flam, West Norway, Norway
Consider splitting your Norway in a Nutshell trip into two days. Take the bus from Flam to nearby Aurland. It's much less touristy, and you can rent a cabin right on the water. The ferry will pick you up from there!
