Located on the coast of Arabia, Oman has a strong history as the heart of the Omani Empire. In the early 1970s, Oman was a reclusive country with a capital city that was gated shut at night. Today it is a welcoming and prosperous country. The capital city of Muscat is an atmospheric city that evokes images of the Arabian Nights. Within, you can find traditional souks and neighbourhoods in a city that has not been affected as much by soulless modernization as other Middle Eastern cities. As well in Oman, there are a number of forts dating back to the 16th to 18th Centuries. The Batinah Coast has many towns with impressive forts and interesting settings. Jabrin Castle is another fort, one that was built during the 17th Century and restored in the 1980s. It impressively stands out from the desert and contains a mazelike interior. For a natural sight, the Wadi Shab is a famous sight that contains emerald green pools of water and most famously, a cave where light streams in and illuminates the pool from above.

A great place to enjoy and relax with some fresh fruit juices, great Indian cuisine or going shopping in the big Souk

There are the modern and old parts of the souq. The entrance to the old souq is through an old wooden door before entering the main area of the small modern souq. The old souq is only open during the day, closes around..

Extensively restored fort at Jabrin with a surrounding date palm plantation. The fort sets itself apart from Oman's other restored forts with its exquisitely restored decorated ceilings.

Don't visit here. I crashed my plane there which is the only reason I went. It is easily the freakisest place I have seen in the middle east and the people there were not thrilled with our being around. Plus the entire Island is nothing but dirt and mud huts.

Muscat was like the end of the world. Beautiful mountains and desert on one side, the sea on the other. Very exotic marketplace. Women have to consider their clothing. Nice place, hotel was exclusive-service excellent! Would love to go back!

Sur, Ash Sharqiyah Coastal Region, Oman
Sur is the most important dock in the Oman to commerce with India and Pakistan. The town is very nice, but the best is the cool drink, an fruit juice made at the moment, especially in the small place in front of kebab, at right of the big roundabout. Sur is the southern city in Oman where you can find bancomat, supermarket, hertz.Otherwhere there are foodstuff, minibazar you can find necessary you need.

If you like shopping, you have to go to the market in Ruwi! It's probably one of my fave places in the world. There are 123Rial shops everywhere there, with all sorts of things to buy, really cheap. The buzz there is cool too and the people are so friendly.

Cute Arabian city, green with lots of flowers. Unfortunately the public toilets are not very clean. In the Gulf area it is still one of the cities with the most tradicional architeture.
