Travel Tips from people who've been to Musandam Peninsula
Last summer we went on a dhow-cruise in Khasab, Oman. A dhow is a fisherboat that the locals use for fishing. We took the dhow cruise out the Hormuz Straits to Khor Sham through a majestic 25km fjord. The scenery was breathtaking with the naturally craved limestone mountains rising sharply out of the turquoise and crystal clear calm waters. Along the fjords, we past through several tiny villages that were so remote that they were only accessible by boats. The dhow boat also stopped at several spots where the visitors could snorkel and swim in the pristine waters teeming with colourful fishes. At certain areas along the fjords, there were also playful dolphins swimming alongside the boat and mesmerizing all the visitors. It was really an enjoyable cruise!
The harbour we leave from when going diving in the Musandam area. It is small fishing port, full of local dhows used for fishing and excursions. There are always local arrangments to be made to hire a boat. But please do not forget a passport with valid visa, as you have to cross the Omani border to go to Musandam. Police very often checks. The travel distance from Dubai is about an hour and a half, easy driving.
