Pakistan

Less known compared to India, its neighbour, the “Land of the Pure” is a fascinating country that has withstood countless invasions yet preserves its unique identity. The site of some of the earliest civilizations, a number of major archeological spots, including Mohenjodaro and Taxila of the ancient Indus Valley and Gandhara civilizations are here to discover. In terms of living traditions, the Kafir-Kalash, “Wearers of the Black Robes” are a primitive pagan tribe that continue on with their ancient unchanging traditions in the Chitral valley. Khyber Pass is another famous region of incredible strategic importance as a main passageway between Pakistan and Afghanistan. For those who love mountains – large, mysterious mountains of epic proportions, Pakitstan is home to many famous giants – K2, Nanga Parbat and Rakaposhi included. These are the mountains that many alpinists and mountaineers have dreamed and aspired towards. In the valleys, the numerous streams and rivers are famous for their trout. Elsewhere, Sandstone castles such as the Sindh High Court and old city Bazaars are sure to create a mind-blowing experience.

Karachi a city brimming with happenings. Port city with lots of history pre partition of India-Pakistan. Night life is fun along the long cornich at the beach. Shopping is great at the new plaza malls or for ethnic bargains, check out the Zainab bazaar. Food is great specially at Clifton and do try out the late night paan(betel leaf) shops or qulfi(icecream) in bahadrabad. Lots of fun sports club in Defence area(membership required). Sight seeing places are Tha Qaid's mosoleum and paradise point worth visiting. Overall a must see city when visiting Pakistan. Do be careful of roadside unexpected robberies that happen to few but do be watchful!

Go to the beach to ride a camel or a horse... you can also pay money to watch the snake/mongoose "fight" that I loved to watch when I was little but won't pay for again... it's unethical to pit animals against one another as sport... Michael Vick anyone?
Rawalpindi, Punjab Region, Pakistan
Make sure you have small change - lots of it. Break Rs 1000 notes every chance you get, because restaurants and shops often do not have any change. And taxi drivers will often not want to give you change.
Lahore, Punjab Region, Pakistan
Although most parts of the Royal Fort were constructed around 1566 A.D. by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar the Great, there is evidence that a mud fort was in existence here in 1021 A.D. as well, when Mahmood of Ghazna invaded this area. Akbar demolished the old mud fort and constructed most of the modern Fort, as we see it today, on the old foundations. The Royal Fort is rectangular. The main gates are located alongside the centre of the western and eastern walls. Every succeeding Mughal Emperor as well as the Sikhs, and the British in their turn, added a pavilion, palace or wall to the Fort. Emperor Jehangir extended the gardens and constructed the palaces that we see today in the Jehangir?s Quadrangle, while Shah-Jehan added Diwan-e-Khas, Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque) and his own Sleeping Chambers. Aurangzeb built the impressive main gate which faces the Hazoori Bagh lying in between the Badshahi Mosque and the Fort. The Famous Sheesh Mahal or Palace of Mirrors is in the north-east corner of the Fort. This is the most beautiful palace in the Fort and is decorated with small mirrors of different colours set. The part of the wall of the Elephant Steps towards the Fort?s inner gate are scarred by bullet marks, bearing testimony to the Sikh Civil War of 1847 A.D. The Sleeping Chamber of Mai Jindan houses a very interesting museum with relics from Mughal and the Sikh periods.

One of the most fundamentalist muslim places I have been to. No women but only men on the streets, the only woman I saw these two days was wearing a burqa. But it is still an interesting place to visit... Just accept that some systems are working differently...

Peshawar, North-West Frontier, Pakistan
Peshawar was like to Pakistan, what the "Wild West" was to the USA. It was incredible... you could walk through the market place and buy anything... from livestock, fur, food, arms ammunition, transport, and illicit stuff... yet, we could not eat meat on Tuesdays.
Islamabad, Islamabad Region, Pakistan
Built in the 1960s, Islamabad is like a western style suburb with grid streets dividing the residential areas from the shopping areas. It lacks the character of a place like Lahore but is very livable.

Make sure you take your own TP and hand sanitizer. Also, you do not want to take your fanciest brands of make-up nor best shoes. I would even purposefully buy cheap versions of this, just for your trip. Also, you may want to bring a shawl to put on for your own comfort becuase they have staring problems over there.

Unless you know any parties/events happening privately, Karachi nightlife is mainly consistent of a wide variety of restaurants, sheesha spots, and cafes. There are no proper, designated spots to buy liqour, although bootlegged bottles can be bought in various alley ways, and bought privately.. Most of the "partying" scene is underground.
