Founded in 1597, it was once the third strongest fortress in Spanish America and is considered a world heritage site. Old Panama , the first Spanish city founded in 1519, was another important location in the colonial trade era. It fell into disuse after the city was attacked by pirates. The Royal Castle of San Lorenzo of Chagre is another worthwhile stop. Built as a defense site, it is also designated a world heritage site. Those wanting to do shopping will want to visit Colon , one of the largest free-trade zones and a popular cruise port. From nightlife to nature, adrenaline rushes to relaxation, modern cultural experiences to traditional glimpses of various tribes and cultures, Panama is a country to experience it all.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Panama
Beware of taxi drivers late at night.  They may take you somewhere you don't want to go and try to rob you!  As long as you have some mase and can jump from a moving car, you will be ok.  :)
