Travel Tips from people who've been to The Chaco
Ciudad del Este (formerly named "Puerto Presidente Stroessner" after Paraguay's long-standing dictator) is no place to stay. It's one of the commercial centers of South America and it's malls and markets also attract a lot of Brazilians living just on the other side of the "friendship bridge" which crosses the "Paraná" river and connects CdE with Foz do Iguaçu. The low prices of goods and proprietary articles are often due to their doubious origin as a lot of smuggling is going on across the border. So if you want to cross the frontier don't do it by night!

Many will come to this region of the world to see Itaipu Dam, unfourtionatly the tour is rather lacking. The only stops are at designated viewpoints. They do drive across the dam, but the tour is rather lacking. If you can see the dam some other way, do so. It might not be worth it to take the tour.

There isn't too much to see in the city so either you go for the shopping or t get lost in the madness of all commercial activity. The food is cheap and great! You can visit the iguazu falls both sides are very close brazil and argentina.
