If you are trekking in the Amazon River Basin, you need to make sure and take lots of sunscreen, bug repellant, broken in boots/pack, first aid kit, compass, map, poncho (helps with makeshift shelter), energy food, and plenty of water (w electrolyte powder).  Don't neglect wick-away material clothing, a hat, plenty of socks and footpowder.  Camera and journal are a must.  Chuck
