People in Quezon City
Manila, Luzon Islands, Philippines
Keep an eye on your stuff, particularly when walking around. When you get in at the airport, go upstairs to the departure area to get taxis that just dropped off passengers; the taxis who wait for new arrivals overcharge.

New traditional Filipino cuisine restaurant in Quezon City, near the Sulu Hotel. It's called Adarna, and they have very good food. Highly recommended.

Best bargain shopping, if you're up for a little adventure and heat, is in Divisoria. Take the MRT north to Quezon Avenue, then hop on a jeepney to Divisoria. It's a district of stalls and bargain shopping.

Bring lots of water. Be polite, but careful. Although there are a lot of nice people in Manila (and the Philippines in general), there are always a few jerks who try to take advantage of travelers, especially if you obviously don't look Filipino.

DO NOT TRUST TO THE FIRST PERSON YOU MEET. FILIPINOS ARE FRIENDLY TO FOREIGNERS BUT THERE ARE ALSO SOME WHO ARE WISE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE.

Hot and dirty. if your rich you drive in your air- conditioned car, from your air- conditioned house to the air-conditioned supermarket, shopping centre, amusement park. Whilst people try and sell yesterdays newspaper to you throguh your car window when you're stuck in traffic. Keep your windows up to avoid smoke and hands entering. Shopping rocks, people are lovely, yay if you have a pool, sucky if you don't.

The city is huge, as far as the eye can see in about every direction. As a result, Manila has the worst traffic of any place I have been. In front of LA, New York, and Atlanta. There are no rules on the road. A standard 2 lane road anywhere else, hosts 3-4 lanes of cars, people will even drive on the wrong side of the rule. The only rule there seems to be "out run the cops". I would suggest having someone you know drive you around or take a cab every where you need to go.

The people of the Philippines are wonderful people. They are some of the most pleasurable to Americans than any other culture I have visited. We were thanked several times for our nations role in the war.

Be careful! Read up on the culture before you travel to a third world country! It is beautiful, but not always safe. In many cultures, including the Philippine culture, it is not considered "wrong" to steal - unless you are caught. But as long as you do a little research, you'll have a wonderful time. The Filipino people are extremely hospitable and friendly. Be respectful. Taste all of the food. Don't go without seeing the beaches at Boracay. :)
Bring some handkerchiefs if you will be in Manila. It is very polluted and these come in handy to breath through while you flag down a jeepney. --sounds like mostly bad stuff, but just look up some pictures and you'll want to go :)

Makati, Luzon Islands, Philippines
3rd Buba Gump I visit in my life, as usual the Lava flow is my favorite and allows me to get ready for a new experience, in Makati is the business and nightlife heart of PH, here there is everything to start and discover. The Buba experience for me is a memory refreshing before getting to plunge into the Pinoy world, you can see people spending in one meal 5,000 pesos then go out and realize that is the income of one month or most of the populations, so the contrast began, still you will find amazing how across all the social level, happiness a smile and courtesy is a standard into this joyful culture

You like the big shells you found on the beach, or sought while diving\snorkeling??? So did I! In Manila, the backpackersdistrict, there are loads of seefood-restaurants. They will make soup out of the inside of the shells, and throw the rest of it away. If you aske nicely, they might give you some of those amazing big shells,... Just be careful when you try to take them out of the country!

Navotas, Luzon Islands, Philippines
Be careful when you go Navotas, this is a fishing village. Though the people here are very friendly and accomodating. You can have so many fresh seafoods here and you can get it for a very cheap price.

Food in Quezon City
Manila, Luzon Islands, Philippines
You really need to travel with someone who knows how to get around Manila because catching Jeepneys, tricycles or buses is not easy if you don't know how!! Because of the traffic, make sure you allot plenty of time to get to your destination, especially the airport! Don't give money to beggars or more will swoop down like pigeons or seagulls (take your pick). Best way to experience Manila is to stay with a family or a friend who lives there. The only good reason to visit Manila (apart from seeing family and friends) is for the shopping. The malls are huge and pretty cheap too.
