Travel Tips from people who've been to Mindanao Islands
There is a good amount to do here.Lots of historic places to visit and some night life. The big hotels are mostly private entrance to ward off the poverty which is abundant around the area. Some hotels have man-made beaches with room access to these.Fresh and salt water pools with pool bars. There is a lot of prostitution here and the local towns are not to be visited without a good guide. GET A GUIDE!!! Oh," If it looks good to eat ask what kind of meat". Don't knock dog 'till you try it.Watch you wallet and your back.ATM's are guarded by police with guns.Don't give money to locals who beg. They will follow you.I saw 5 year olds in traffic looking for pennies and diving into water to get a penny I saw Brits.who thought it would be a good game to see how far the kids would go or what they would do for money.Sad.

Zamboanga is one of the first chartered cities and the sixth largest in the country. Today, the city is commercially branded for tourism by the city government as "Asia's Latin City." Zamboanga is one of the oldest cities in the country and the most hispanicized. It is also one of the largest cities in the world in terms of area, with over 1,480 km², including its 28 surrounding islands. The people of Zamboanga speak a unique Creole language called Chavacano - a blend of Spanish and European, Mexican-Indian languages and other local dialects but mostly Cebuano as its substrate language. Zamboanga is the only city in Asia where the majority of the population speak Chavacano.

eden park - nestled at the foot of Mt. Apo, eden park is a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of central davao. the cool weather is just right and your young ones would most likely enjoy the wildlife (i did!) they have peacocks near the hotel area, and a separate deer farm. poor things though, would have wanted them to be in the wild. :) the food is good, specially the salad -- quite fresh when we were there. their restaurant has a covered portion which allows you to dine al fresco, minus the bugs and the rain.
