Malopolska Region People & Culture
Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland For cheap places to stay there are usually people around the train station offering rooms in private houses.
You have to go to Wawel (pronounced Vavel) Castle. Some say this is the heart of Poland and it is the past seat of Polish Kings. There is also a Smok (Dragon) that lives in the tunnel underneath the castle.
Two day trips you have to make are
1. Oswiencim (Aushwitz). You can take a train from the center of Krakow, to within a couple of hundred meters of the front gates. You cannot miss this testament to the horrors of the Nazis and genocide.
2. Wielizcka salt mines. This is another trip possible by the efficient Polish railway system. These salt mines have been in service for hundreds of years and are now a Unesco world heritage site. As the miners took the salt out they carved statues and even a cathedral into the caves. Really amazing.
Don't forget to listen to the trumpter in the main square and to have a great time. Krakow is fantastic! Good tip? (+2) Janow Podlaski, Malopolska Region, Poland I had a definite objective to going to this little corner of Poland--to see the Polish State Stud where some of the finest Arabian horses in the world are bred. Even if you're not an afficionado of the breed, the stud is worth a visit for its white-washed, classic buildings where the horses are stabled. The Polish studs are noted among horse people for their gentle manner with the horses, and the gentle temperaments that the horses therefore take on. The national competition and sale held each August draws both locals and people from around the globe, including celebrities and royalty. The sale totals generally climb into the millions of euros. Even though all that is exciting, for a horse lover, the most transcendent experience is walking into the mare barns, where the beautiful ladies of Janow stand knee-deep in golden straw (not in stalls), with the rustic whitewashed walls as a background, as the morning (or afternoon) light pours in through the windows and onto their backs. It is, without a doubt, one of the most quietly beautiful sights anywhere on the planet. Good tip? (0) Oswiecim, Malopolska Region, Poland Why people go to Auschwitz: to visit the camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. Remember what happened so we don't reproduce that kind of things... Good tip? (0) Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland If you want to experience some really crazy night nife in Krakow, go visit Kitsh (15 Wielopole street) on weekend and just have fun. Cool music (80's 90's hits), cool entourage, cool people, cool drinks. And when you feel like changing place, there are three other really nice clubs in the same building (relax in Caryca, meet the past in Lubu-Dubu). The best place to spend the night in Krakow. Good tip? (0) Oswiecim, Malopolska Region, Poland Oswecim is the original Polish name for the infamous site, Auschwitz/Birkenau, but it is a must see if you are visiting Poland or anywhere else in central Europe. I started with a tour that began in Auschwitz and ended in Birkenau and it was chilling. It was November 2006, but Poland was unusually warm for that time of year. I nearly lost it when I saw the children's clothes and the hair laid out as "fabric", but what was more haunting was walking into one of the women's barracks in Birkenau. It felt like it was perhaps 60* F outside, but as soon as I set foot inside the cabin, it was like walking into a freezer. You could almost feel the eyes of those poor souls on you. The smell of Birkenau was also a little eerie. Overall, if you are interested at all in seeing what evils people are capable of and more importantly how to prevent history repeating itself, put some time aside for visiting these concentration camps. Good tip? (0) Zakopane, Malopolska Region, Poland Very cultural!! Lots of interesting traditions and good food. (łoscypek) Good tip? (0) Lezajsk, Malopolska Region, Poland Great forest surroundings perfect for a bike trip (reserve of beavers, reserve of azalea (unique in Europe) and many others) plus beautiful market square and jewish heritage Good tip? (0) Zakopane, Malopolska Region, Poland Zakopane is known as 'the winter capital of Poland' but personally I think it's one of the best places to go, all year round. One of the must-go places is Krupowki Street. It's a central point of the town, one of the busiest and most famous shopping streets in Poland. It is where the Góral culture is most visible, with all the traditionally-dressed ladies selling Góral souvenirs. Besides shopping, Krupowki offer lots of karczmas and gospodas which are tipically Polish pubs and restaurants where you can enjoy local meal accompanied by traditional music. Later, all you have to do is: grab an Oscypek [a Góral cheese snack] at the marketplace, take a cable car up Gubałówka Hill and admire the beautiful Tatra View.
Zakopane is also the best place for skiing [Kasprowy, Nosal, Gubałówka]. Good tip? (0) Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland krakow is the most important city after Warsaw in Poland. I has been there for my studies ( 1 year). I visited all krakow, auschwitz, the salt mine, and i would like to see warsaw and the cost. Lot of peaple to a lot of fun, cultur and student erasmus party !!! Good tip? (0) Stalowa Wola, Malopolska Region, Poland Stalowa Wola, the city with the area of 82,5 km2 and the total number of citizens exceeding 70 thousand, is one of the youngest cities in Poland. It belongs to the newly created Podkarpacie Province. Located on the crossing of south - east - west roads Stalowa Wola is one of the most important junctions in the region. Such a location is conductive to the development of the city, railway junction in Stalowa Wola-Rozwadów has the direct connection with Przemyśl, Kraków, Lublin, Warszawa, Łódź, Poznań, cities of Silesia and Wrocław. Thanks to the young and fast developing companies in the city and region the employment systematically increases. The private sector has grown considerably, the privatization of many companies helped to change the structure of the economy, new joint-venture companies with western capital have been established. Today over 5,5 thousand economic entities are registered in Stalowa Wola. Established in 1997 Special Economic Zone of Tarnobrzeg "Euro-Park Wisłosan" has ben a successful factor stimulating the economic growth in the region. Our City cannot be only associated with the HUTA STALOWA WOLA, it is not only the industry and planned highways but fisrt of all large forest areas remains of the Sandomierska Forest. During the 60 years of its existence Stalowa Wola developed from the small housing estate, located at the outskirts of the factory, to the size of big city, second biggest in the Podkarpacie Province. Our City is dynamic and buoyant, but its greatest assets are the citizens. Young and well educated, they make up a priceless potential with great intellectual and manual capabilities, which can mange any kind of business activity. Other special values of the city and almost industrial field are its modern urban planning, its space and natural environment. Big woods on the banks of the River San, allowing vast space for active rest and good communication routes make up the rest. Stalowa Wola is the dynamic administration, cultural, educational and sport center. In the area of education the first violin plays the branch of Katolicki Universytet Lubelski, where currently study over 3 thousand students. In 1998 the new branch of the Polytechnic of Rzeszów was established, educating graduates finding employment in the local companies. In the academic year 2001/2002 its activity began the College of Economics. The preference in the education program has been given to the economics, law, computer science and foreign languages. The oldest educational institution is the Public Library, established in 1938 and operating since then without interruption. There are also two culture houses and music school operating in the city. The showcase of the artistic movement are among others the J. Zmuda Dramatic Theatre, "Okna" Theatre, "Lasowiacy" group, "Cantus" chorus, and "Volta" dancing group. The sports club with long traditions, and simultaneously the peer of the city, is ZKS "Stal" with traditional basketball (the team has just been promoted to the first division) and football teams, as well as other smaller sections of athletics, tennis and volleyball. Other sport and recreation organizations worth mentioning are the automobile club and the aero club based on the sport airfield in Turbia near Stalowa Wola. Stalowa Wola is the city worth coming to, worth investing in, because it has not only the huge potential and great history but also the strong will for achievements - no wonder as the English equivalent the city name is "Steel Will" Good tip? (0) Kazimierz Dolny, Malopolska Region, Poland Small town at the side of Vistula river. Worth of visiting especially during summer time when two interesting festivals take place. Movie Festival "Dwa Brzegi" ("Two Shores") and Polish Folk Music Festival. You can take small ferry across the river which takes you to the old village and Castle in Janowiec. Good tip? (0) Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland It's easy to see why this is a popular destination. Krakow is a wonderful place, full of life and fun. Music and dance hits you as you enter the main square. The Wawel castle sits by the side of the Wisla river. A daytrip to nearby Auschwitz is a sobering experience, but a must-do if you visit here. I didn't have chance to visit the Salt Mine, so can't express an opinion on that. Good tip? (0) Mokrelipie, Malopolska Region, Poland Heading south-east of Poland, you should drop me a line! My home is in Mokrelipe and my loved family (mum and dad) lives there. You will be all welcome to stay over in my house and experience a pure Polish village with peaceful beautiful scenery, great for biking, camping, swim in lakes and just a great relax! best time to go there- mid summer, July- August. have fun! Good tip? (0) Zakopane, Malopolska Region, Poland skijumping and other winter sports!!!!!!!!!! Good tip? (0) Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland Krakow in Poland is considered one of the most expensive cities - even bread has a price of gold compared to other Polish cities. Avoid overspending and try to get the best deals. If possible do your shopping well away from the city centre. On the other hand, Sukiennice and Krakow in general offer great possibilities of buying tourist merchandise for an unforgettable Polish experience. Good tip? (0) Lezajsk, Malopolska Region, Poland Great forest surroundings perfect for a bike trip (reserve of beavers, reserve of azalea (unique in Europe) and many others) plus beautiful market square and jewish heritage Good tip?
