People in Poland
Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland
For cheap places to stay there are usually people around the train station offering rooms in private houses. You have to go to Wawel (pronounced Vavel) Castle. Some say this is the heart of Poland and it is the past seat of Polish Kings. There is also a Smok (Dragon) that lives in the tunnel underneath the castle. Two day trips you have to make are 1. Oswiencim (Aushwitz). You can take a train from the center of Krakow, to within a couple of hundred meters of the front gates. You cannot miss this testament to the horrors of the Nazis and genocide. 2. Wielizcka salt mines. This is another trip possible by the efficient Polish railway system. These salt mines have been in service for hundreds of years and are now a Unesco world heritage site. As the miners took the salt out they carved statues and even a cathedral into the caves. Really amazing. Don't forget to listen to the trumpter in the main square and to have a great time. Krakow is fantastic!

Bialystok, Mazovia & Podlasie Region, Poland
One of the things you have to see in Bialystok is Branicki Palace (called Versaille of the North) with the garden (designed after Versaille gardens) and the park around - wheter it's cold or warm you will always meet people there ;)

Warsaw, Mazovia & Podlasie Region, Poland
I don't want to write a tip for Warsaw... I want to write a tip for the small mountain village in South Poland I passed through once only once, and could never find again because I never noted the name... and the roads in Poland are notoriously confusing (not to mention dangerous - do NOT begin a road rage contest with a Polish truck driver on his own turf - you will LOSE). That place was one of the most unbelievable little pockets of beauty I've ever seen, stone cottages two stories and higher, a babbling brook with cows just wandering about the place - I swear I saw a black haired Tess of the D'Urbevilles out getting ready to milk them. Idyllic, but like all idyllic scenes - it's be ruined if you stopped and tried to fit into it. Anyway my tip on Warsaw: don't get stuck in rush hour traffic. In fact, don't drive into town at all, go by foot and just find yourself a nice place to stay... then walk out at night and meet all the lovely people - they make eye contact! They say hello to strangers!

Katowice, Silesia Region, Poland
Railway station is one of the most dangerous places in Katowice. It is ugly and dirty. Do not count on that booking-clerk will be speaking English... ask in English only young people or bring Polish conversation guide

Wroclaw, Silesia Region, Poland
Compared to Krakow there's less to see. It's also slightly less touristic which gives you the chance to experience genuine Polish culture. Do NOT expect that Polish girls are easy, and that they'll fall at your feet because you're a foreigner.

Warsaw, Mazovia & Podlasie Region, Poland
Coming from Poland I can tell you allot of good things, Warszawa unfortunatly is not one of them. The city suffered terrible destruction up to 90% in the second world war...and eventhough it forms the capital and business center of Poland, the Polish culture seems to have been dissolved in the globalisation of this huge city.

Poland Arts & Recreation
Warszawa, Mazovia & Podlasie Region, Poland
A very interesting and unusual city. Quite diverse with beauty and not so pretty sites. People seem happy and positive. Lots of crime when we were there a few years back...hopefully that has changed. Some interesting "US" type clubs with great music.

Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland
If you want to experience some really crazy night nife in Krakow, go visit Kitsh (15 Wielopole street) on weekend and just have fun. Cool music (80's 90's hits), cool entourage, cool people, cool drinks. And when you feel like changing place, there are three other really nice clubs in the same building (relax in Caryca, meet the past in Lubu-Dubu). The best place to spend the night in Krakow.

Sosnowiec has few nice pubs in the city centre, just listen carefully and follow the music when you step out the bus or tram in the evening!

Zakopane, Malopolska Region, Poland
Zakopane is known as 'the winter capital of Poland' but personally I think it's one of the best places to go, all year round. One of the must-go places is Krupowki Street. It's a central point of the town, one of the busiest and most famous shopping streets in Poland. It is where the Góral culture is most visible, with all the traditionally-dressed ladies selling Góral souvenirs. Besides shopping, Krupowki offer lots of karczmas and gospodas which are tipically Polish pubs and restaurants where you can enjoy local meal accompanied by traditional music. Later, all you have to do is: grab an Oscypek [a Góral cheese snack] at the marketplace, take a cable car up Gubałówka Hill and admire the beautiful Tatra View. Zakopane is also the best place for skiing [Kasprowy, Nosal, Gubałówka].

Stalowa Wola, Malopolska Region, Poland
Stalowa Wola, the city with the area of 82,5 km2 and the total number of citizens exceeding 70 thousand, is one of the youngest cities in Poland. It belongs to the newly created Podkarpacie Province. Located on the crossing of south - east - west roads Stalowa Wola is one of the most important junctions in the region. Such a location is conductive to the development of the city, railway junction in Stalowa Wola-Rozwadów has the direct connection with Przemyśl, Kraków, Lublin, Warszawa, Łódź, Poznań, cities of Silesia and Wrocław. Thanks to the young and fast developing companies in the city and region the employment systematically increases. The private sector has grown considerably, the privatization of many companies helped to change the structure of the economy, new joint-venture companies with western capital have been established. Today over 5,5 thousand economic entities are registered in Stalowa Wola. Established in 1997 Special Economic Zone of Tarnobrzeg "Euro-Park Wisłosan" has ben a successful factor stimulating the economic growth in the region. Our City cannot be only associated with the HUTA STALOWA WOLA, it is not only the industry and planned highways but fisrt of all large forest areas remains of the Sandomierska Forest. During the 60 years of its existence Stalowa Wola developed from the small housing estate, located at the outskirts of the factory, to the size of big city, second biggest in the Podkarpacie Province. Our City is dynamic and buoyant, but its greatest assets are the citizens. Young and well educated, they make up a priceless potential with great intellectual and manual capabilities, which can mange any kind of business activity. Other special values of the city and almost industrial field are its modern urban planning, its space and natural environment. Big woods on the banks of the River San, allowing vast space for active rest and good communication routes make up the rest. Stalowa Wola is the dynamic administration, cultural, educational and sport center. In the area of education the first violin plays the branch of Katolicki Universytet Lubelski, where currently study over 3 thousand students. In 1998 the new branch of the Polytechnic of Rzeszów was established, educating graduates finding employment in the local companies. In the academic year 2001/2002 its activity began the College of Economics. The preference in the education program has been given to the economics, law, computer science and foreign languages. The oldest educational institution is the Public Library, established in 1938 and operating since then without interruption. There are also two culture houses and music school operating in the city. The showcase of the artistic movement are among others the J. Zmuda Dramatic Theatre, "Okna" Theatre, "Lasowiacy" group, "Cantus" chorus, and "Volta" dancing group. The sports club with long traditions, and simultaneously the peer of the city, is ZKS "Stal" with traditional basketball (the team has just been promoted to the first division) and football teams, as well as other smaller sections of athletics, tennis and volleyball. Other sport and recreation organizations worth mentioning are the automobile club and the aero club based on the sport airfield in Turbia near Stalowa Wola. Stalowa Wola is the city worth coming to, worth investing in, because it has not only the huge potential and great history but also the strong will for achievements - no wonder as the English equivalent the city name is "Steel Will"

Krakow, Malopolska Region, Poland
Krakow in Poland is considered one of the most expensive cities - even bread has a price of gold compared to other Polish cities. Avoid overspending and try to get the best deals. If possible do your shopping well away from the city centre. On the other hand, Sukiennice and Krakow in general offer great possibilities of buying tourist merchandise for an unforgettable Polish experience.

Poland Government
Pszczyna, Silesia Region, Poland
Castle in Pszczyna ( Polish : Zamek Pszczyński ) is a classicist magnate palace in Pszczyna . Constructed as a castle in 13th century or earlier, in a gothic style, it rebuilt in renaissance style in 17th century, in baroque in 18th century and classicist in 19th century; the classicist modernization transformed the castle into what is usually described a palace.
