Warsaw, Mazovia & Podlasie Region, Poland
One of the best museums in the world: Warsaw Uprising Museum, go and see it! (audiovisual exhibition, reconstruction of sewers which were the way for escape for warsaw people in 44')
Oswiecim, Malopolska Region, Poland
There are trains from Krakow to Auschwitz, for a small price. The locals usually don't speak English, but you can find signs. There are organized tours for Auschwitz I and Birkenau, in most languages, for a tax. You can also find books in English. the experience is overwhelming for most visitors which usually don't feel too well - nausea, trembling, headaches are common. A not so nice place to see. Don't bring children.

Oświęcim is mostly known as Auschwitz by the rest of the world. It's where the infamous Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau is located. I strongly suggest visiting this camp to actually see with your own eyes the cruel history of World War 2 and concentrations camps. I remained silent through most of the guided walk in some sort of disbelief and uncomfort. Knowing that millions of people had been brutaly murdered there and seeing the hair and shoes of them... The gas chambers. It's an experience of a life time and I truly think that if you're near Oświęcim take the chance and visit it!
