People in Silesia Region
Katowice, Silesia Region, Poland
Railway station is one of the most dangerous places in Katowice. It is ugly and dirty. Do not count on that booking-clerk will be speaking English... ask in English only young people or bring Polish conversation guide

Katowice, Silesia Region, Poland
Katowice has to be one of the most untouristic places in Poland. Even Polish people don't come here. There's just not much to see here. It's great though if you want to experience a true Polish atmosphere.

Wroclaw, Silesia Region, Poland
If you're a film buff, consider coming to Wrocław in the second half of July. That's when one of the biggest film festivals in Europe takes place here (see eranowehoryzonty.pl). They usually show around 250 full length features films, plus many more medium and short length films - all this in 10 days. The repertoire is mostly veeery art house, though you can see some lighter stuff too (in particular every year seems to feature some commercial films from Asia). A lot of the films that are shown at the London Film Festival in October come to Wrocław first and the Wrocław prices are much lower, so this is a very good deal. Pretty much all the films are shown with both English and Polish subtitles.

A word of caution though - it's wise to book both accomodation and tickets to the films early because the festival has over 100 thousand people coming to attend it every year!

Silesia Region Culture
Wroclaw, Silesia Region, Poland
Compared to Krakow there's less to see. It's also slightly less touristic which gives you the chance to experience genuine Polish culture. Do NOT expect that Polish girls are easy, and that they'll fall at your feet because you're a foreigner.

Ustron, Silesia Region, Poland
In Ustroń, look out for Angel's Pub and Restaurant. A very nice place, with live music on weekends (jazz mainly), and a very good choice of both meat and vegetarian dishes (speacially these last ones, as they are sometimes rather hard to find in Poland)

Szklarska Poreba, Silesia Region, Poland
The only place worth seeing is "Jazzgot Club" below "Metafora" restaurant. They play very good music, the beer is cheap (6pln for 0.5 Żywiec) so there are only advantages! :)

Karpacz, Silesia Region, Poland
The best way to get, take a mini-bus from Jelenia Gora, to that city you can get by train from Breslau which has also flight conections :-) The best place to sleep - go up the mountains and stay at Samotnia mountain hostel which is placed in amazing scenery! From Karpacz there is a lot of nice pathtracks leading you on the top of Karkonosze mountain range, the highest peak in Sudeten, around 1600 meters above sea level. Great oportunities to ski in winter and lovely place to spend a weekend with friends or family, all around is protected area by National Park so you can admire nature and very rare plants or animals. I recomend it as quite small but very lovely place to visit, you can see there even fabulous wooden cheapel from Norwey!

Silesia Region Government
Pszczyna, Silesia Region, Poland
Castle in Pszczyna ( Polish : Zamek Pszczyński ) is a classicist magnate palace in Pszczyna . Constructed as a castle in 13th century or earlier, in a gothic style, it rebuilt in renaissance style in 17th century, in baroque in 18th century and classicist in 19th century; the classicist modernization transformed the castle into what is usually described a palace. In its history the castle was a residence of local Piasts dynasty members, then Promnitz family (mid 16th to mid 18th centuries) and later, von Pless family. The castle was owned by the government since 1936. Since 1946 it is a site of the Muzeum Zamkowe ( Castle Museum ).
