Wroclaw is the capital of the Lower Silesia region and is the fourth largest city in Poland.  Despite being half-destroyed at the end of World War II, Wroclaw retains a lot of character and has been revitalized in recent years as well.  Wroclaw's beautiful Rynek and Plac Solny are good attractions to see in the city.  Read more about Wroclaw in this Wroclaw travel guide.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Wroclaw
There is a great movie festival in summer!!

If you're a film buff, consider coming to Wrocław in the second half of July. That's when one of the biggest film festivals in Europe takes place here (see eranowehoryzonty.pl). They usually show around 250 full length features films, plus many more medium and short length films - all this in 10 days. The repertoire is mostly veeery art house, though you can see some lighter stuff too (in particular every year seems to feature some commercial films from Asia). A lot of the films that are shown at the London Film Festival in October come to Wrocław first and the Wrocław prices are much lower, so this is a very good deal. Pretty much all the films are shown with both English and Polish subtitles.

A word of caution though - it's wise to book both accomodation and tickets to the films early because the festival has over 100 thousand people coming to attend it every year!

Hostels number is growing each year in Wroclaw, one of the most interesting places to stay for a budget traveller is deffenetely mleczarnia hostel with it's cafe and bar beneath. It's placed just next to the old sinagogue on Wlodkowica st.
For those who are traveling in groups or families, and staying for at least few days check website: www.wroclawapartments.pl
