Travel Tips from people who've been to Ponta Delgada
Ponta Delgada is a charming seaside city of approximately 40000 people. The streets are quite narrow, and thus care should be taken both as a pedestrian and as driver. There is a sea swimming pool in the downtown harbour area of the city, where one can enter Atlantic waters. Restaurants and cafes are plenty and varied, from local Portuguese to Asian cuisine. Food seems to be quite safe. Tap water is officially clean but tourist guides advise against drinking it - and using bottled water instead.

A good modern mall called Parque Atlantico is within the city. The mall has a lot of clothes, accessories, and tech stores. If you want sports gear, the out this mall - you will probably find it here. Also plenty of restaurants. The humidity is often pleasant, and the mall is fun to browse.

Ponta Delgada does not have sand beaches within the actual city, but very close there are a few. Azores is not known particularly for beaches; but the ones that exist are fair enough. The sand is a bit coarse and black, since it is the product of grinding volcanic rock. Depending on winds the waves can be quite big, so especially with children it is very well advised to pay attention closely. Many beaches have one or two lifesavers with floating devices. In general the São Miguel island seems very safe and cozy places.

Visit the small restaurant Alcides... Great meals for few money, small local very well-visited restaurant near the mexican restaurant your tour guides recomend you. Look for it and enjoy(if you´re lucky to get a table)
