Faro's most visited attraction is the Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. It also has some pretty nice beaches and shopping, and a decent number of travelers making their way through Portugal stop by Faro to check them out. Take a look at this Faro travel guide to find out more about things to see and do there.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Faro
Faro the capital of the Algarve the southern region of Portugal has a lot to offer!
The student community there is huge an awesome and every Thursday night don't expect to go home until Friday morning!
The city is small but there are many things to do!
Try the old district for shopping, eating and clubbing!
If you like to see the city's mall were you will find a lot of options for eating, shopping (including the whole Zara extravaganza) and cinemas! Remember the portuguese don't use subtitles so you can go and watch pretty much everything!

Faro as a small city is ok to see on foot since there isn't a distance more than 40min (if you go through one end to the other)! Avoid the park next to the schools at night since it's dangerous! Drugs are very easy to find and people to provide them there so stay away at all costs! The police is very friednly (and handsome!) and will guideyou through everything!
Everybody speak at least a little english!
If you go by car be carefull Portugal is No1 in Europe in car accidents!
Try not to use TAP the portguese airline, expensive, always late, you may lose your things!
Food and drinks are very cheap!!! Coffee is onle 0.45euro and the special drink is 4.5euro (wow!)
For gay/lesbians travelers all I have to say is that the lgarve is the place to be!
But! if you go there in the summer the city is practically deserted since students go back home!
ENJOY!!!

Discover the Natural Park of Ria Formosa's walks and beaches, including a Desert Beach!
Sip a delicious latte with Pastel de Nata (kind of Custard Tart) in Cafe "O Coreto" overlooking Faro's small but pretty Marina.
Go on a City "Train" Tour exploring the old town.
Get a real local nightlife flavour by starting your evening with coffee and beers (Mini is the norm!!) in Cafe "A Tasca" in the Old Town with a very pleasant Summer esplanade full of happy & beautiful people. Very laid back!

Great place! There's the airport, huge hotels, there's the beach, the supermarket called 'makro' (it's more like shopping for big companies unlike belgium's makro), there's WaterWorld (really fun). When you get there someday, just travel around and you'll see it yourself :D.
