Romania

Bucharest underwent many forced changes and reconstructions during the reign of Nicolae Ceausescu. The result is that the city is no longer the charming Little Paris, but now contains a number of grand monuments such as the massive Parliamentary Palace (330,000 sq. meters) and the wide Boulevard Unirii. There are pockets of the old Bucharest remaining though, with beautiful villas and cathedrals. A daytrip from Bucharest can take you to the Curtea de Arges, an impressive 16th century monastery with twisted spires and a golden interior.

Romania is also known as the home of Dracula, and attractions related to Dracula abound. Bran Castle is legendarily known as the home of Dracula in Bram Stoker’s novel, while Sighisoara is the birthplace of the inspiration for Dracula – Vlad Tepes. Vlad’s real castle is Castle Poienari, which is far to the south of Bran Castle. The region of Transylvania is also known for its mountains and excellent hiking.

Other areas of Romania have their own charms and attractions. Romania’s impressive Black Sea Coast is home to a number of good beach resorts such as Costinesti and Neptun. The Moldavia region has a number of famous medieval painted monasteries (known as the Bukovina Monasteries), as well as an impressive Palace of Culture museum in Iasi. The Maramures region is notable for the colorful Merry Cemetary in Sapanta.

The massive and grand Palace of the Parliament is the world’s second largest building based on floor space (after the Pentagon) and measures out at over 330,000 sq. meters. There are 1,100 rooms, 12 above..

Peles Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. It was buit for Carol I, king of Romania. The construction started in 1872 and finished over 10 years later. There were between 300 and 400 workers of all..

Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania
Sibiu's astonishingly beautiful old part is nicely renovated, the German name of the town is Herrmannstadt; before the Cheaucescu-Regime there were a lot of German-Speaking Romanians living there. The weather in autumn is mostly moderate, food is cheap, the most expensive part of the trip will be the hotel.

is a funny city, with a huge and cheap nighlife. The city is grey because of all the buildings built during the communism, streets are not always safe but not so much dangerous, is not the most beautiful city in romania but u can stop to see one of the biggest building in the world. The cost of life is cheap with LEU the courrency. People are not always friendly, u hav to be safe, but i met some beautiful ones that made me change my mind a little. the transportation are very good and cheap, i paid more and less 7 euros monthly for underground that connect all the main districts. The food is cheap and good, if like soups and vegetables there are a lot of markets with fresh food.

Bucharest has many interesting sights and walking around is a good way to take them in for the most part ... check out the huge structure built by Romania's erstwhile dictator whose surface imprint is believed to be second only to the Pentagon ... visit the relatively new Romainian writer's museum with photos of several Romanian poets and authors ... stay at Villa 11 with the family-like atmosphere, reasonable prices and Stefan, Deborah and their children taking care of you... in the city be careful of pickpockets and vicious dogs (a major nuisance) ...

1 day is enough. Arrive in the morning and leave that evening. You can only buy your train ticket out of there an hour before the train leaves which is unfortunate when you're train is at 1am!

Bran, Transylvania, Romania
Dracula commercialism is a plenty! Bran Castle is stunning but there are talks of the owner taking back from the government (or whoever runs it) as the lease is nearly up.

Pleasantly surprised! Wide spacious streets. Upsetting to see the homeless/poor kids inhaling their bags of glue at the train station :-(

Got a good vibe from this place. It's a University town. great view of city from Fortress Hill. Rowing in the lake in the park can be fun too!

Stay at the Rapsodia Hotel. Nothing special but relatively clean and convenient to the action. Make sure to stroll out on the adjacent pedestrian area where everyone in town seems to come in the evenings. Enjoy the sidewalk cafes!
