Bucharest People & Culture
Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania is a funny city, with a huge and cheap nighlife. The city is grey because of all the buildings built during the communism, streets are not always safe but not so much dangerous, is not the most beautiful city in romania but u can stop to see one of the biggest building in the world. The cost of life is cheap with LEU the courrency. People are not always friendly, u hav to be safe, but i met some beautiful ones that made me change my mind a little. the transportation are very good and cheap, i paid more and less 7 euros monthly for underground that connect all the main districts. The food is cheap and good, if like soups and vegetables there are a lot of markets with fresh food. Good tip? (+2) Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania Very nice city with nice but a little selfish people Good tip? (0) Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania Bucherest - Dogs are rampent in the city so it is nothing new to see 1-5 dogs every little bit. Rabies could be a hazard due to the number of homeless dogs. The former dictator of the country destroyed the oldest part of Bucherest to build the second largest building in the world second to the Pentagon in the US. Thus destroying the homes of people in the oldest part there ended up being a large number of homeless animals.
The Romanian worker makes approx 300.00 US dollars a month so beware of people trying to take advantage of foreigners. I had taxi driver to try that but luckily I was with someone that spoke Romanian so that helped.
The roads are not in the best shape so don't expect new streets like that is on our major highways. Expect the roads to be well worn. The taxi's and buses are the same way and most do not have air conditioning.
The second largest building in the world is the Palace of the Parliament. It is open I believe for tours. Not sure if camera's are allowed inside.
I did go on a date with a Romanian girl to dinner and a movie. Food: La Mama www.lamama.ro has the best Romanian food. My date took me here since I wanted real Romanian food and this was her favorite Romania restaurant. Food: My dates favorite restaurant is called "Restaurant Valencia - Casa Spaniola". This restaurant as you can tell serves spanish food. The food was great and very reasonable. We had dinner outside on the patio which was romantic. http://www.valencia.ro Good tip? (0) Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania When you visit Romania and you're oblivious to the Eastern European culture it's a nice place to start, if you're more experienced I suggest travelling into the mainland. Good tip? (0) Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania Should you come and visit Bucharest I recommend a walk on the streets of Aviatorilor district where you can still see those beautiful villas build before the second WW. Add The Romanian Peasant Museum, The Museum of Art (former Royal Palace), Romanian Atheneum and the History Museum to complete a cultural tour of the city. if your out for food/drinks try Piata Amzei area with large offer of restaurants, cafeterias and bars. Enjoy! Good tip? (0) Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania A very good restaurant on a lake in the city is:

(+2) Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania Bucharest has many interesting sights and walking around is a good way to take them in for the most part ... check out the huge structure built by Romania's erstwhile dictator whose surface imprint is believed to be second only to the Pentagon ... visit the relatively new Romainian writer's museum with photos of several Romanian poets and authors ... stay at Villa 11 with the family-like atmosphere, reasonable prices and Stefan, Deborah and their children taking care of you... in the city be careful of pickpockets and vicious dogs (a major nuisance) ... Good tip? (+1) Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania Pleasantly surprised! Wide spacious streets. Upsetting to see the homeless/poor kids inhaling their bags of glue at the train station :-( Good tip?
