Moldavia Travel Guide

Don't even think about jumping into a taxi. The walk around the city is really nice and you can find something interesting to see almost everywhere. It's one of the most important cities in Romania . For food I will recommend you Bolta Rece or Hanul Ancutei(not in Iasi, but if you are in Moldova, try to find it). Traditional Romanian food, traditional music and very friendly people. For money it's better to go to a bank.It's safe and the exchange rate is good(BRD,BCR or Bank Post). If you don't know Romanian it's not a problem. You will find people speaking English almost everywhere, especially young people. Don't hesitate to ask for directions!

Suceava is cool to visit. it was a capital city many year back, when Moldavia was an independent state (now, Moldavia, Transylvania, Muntenia and Dobrogea contitute one state, Romania... we speak the same language.. so no big fuss about that)... anyway... suceava has a few places to see, but should be included in an area program, meaning that it doesn't take that much to visit and you'd want to head out to the monasteries which some compare to the Sistine Chapel due to their paintings which are quite unusual... i found them fascinating although i'm not religious.
hostels are cheap there, i know some people in suceava so just ask...

Whenever you're in this part of Romania, the local monasteries are a must - the're painted on the inside and outside in a style reminiscent of orthodox art, yet exclusive to this small region. There are four in quite good shape: Humor (Manastirea Humorului, to be exact), Moldovita, Voronet & Sucevita. Voronet is on the UNESCO list and if I were to pick  the one most worth seeing, it would be a  tie between the last two. Why? Because Sucevita is better preserved, whereas Voronec's artwork is much more breathtaking:]
