If visiting St. Petersburg, take a bus 20 minutes south to Pushkin. Ekaterina Park and Palace are a must. Very similar to Peterhof, only less gold. I prefer this park to the rest. The town of pushkin is great too. Short walk to the town center from the palace. Alot of new construction and renovations going on right now. So it is growing. But there are alot of nice things to see.

The best way to learn more about this place is to walk it. In summer there very nice open air impromptu concerts right at the Ekaterinenskyi Palace. The best and cheapest way to get to Pushkin from St. Petersburg is to take a train, it about an hour ride, and you are there. If you are a poetry-fan, go to the Lyceum museum, though I'm not sure if they have English speaking guides.

Very good place for buying fur hats ,some of the animals are protected in EU,USA, AUSTRALIA so if you don t know which ones be carefull when you are buying to avoid the problems afterwords when you go back home.
