Stavropol' isn't really a tourist destination, and it's among Russia's less visited places. Travelers passing through the area most often stick to more well-known destinations. Have you been to Stavropol'? Help us improve this Stavropol' travel guide by adding your favorite spots!

It is possible to fly to Stavropol from Moscow although there is only one flight per day.  You can also take the train which takes 2 nights.  For comfort I would suggest the two berth cabins which gives you a little more space.  Other wise the journey is not so comfortable.  It is also worth bringing some food for the 30+ hour journey. There is a small dining car when they remember to attach it but most people bring their own food.  There are some "peeva ladies" who bring a small trolley with some beer and other snacks.  There are now showering facilities on the train but there is a small toilet in each carriage.  You will want to get in and out of these rather quickly!

Stavropol has some wonderful parks and woods.  Absolutely huge places and you should certainly visit Victory Park.

The best of the few hotels is called the Azimut which used to be called the Evro Hotel. It is located beside the main square of the city, Lenin Square.  The Tourist and Intourist hotels are ok but basic.

It is best to walk everywhere unless you speak Russian when you can then take a minibus.  These only seat about 9 or 10 people, are always packed full, and are neither clean nor comfortable. If something is not within walking distance, take a taxi.

Never, ever, drink tap water in Stavropol or any other city in Russia for that matter.  Only drink bottled water.  Also, do not drink a home made vodka-like drink called Samogon unless you are very confident of its source.  People have died drinking it, so don't say you were not warned.

Two good restaurants are Casanova and Africa.  The quality of food is first class in both.
