Planning a Trip to Rwanda

Everywhere we went, especially by car, kids tried to sell us toilet paper. I finally bought a large amount and tried to sell it to people. They thought it was hilarious. Rwandans have a pretty good sense of humor, especially the kids.

Bourbon Coffee is a nice coffee house where you can relax, have a good cup of Rwandan coffee and eat (mostly American food). It's located in the United Trade Centre. For those looking for relatively fast internet... you get 30 minutes wireless internet for free with the purchase of a coffee!

Speaking FRENCH is a triple advantage

Make sure you bring crisp money that is post-2003 or else they won't except it!

Gisenyi is a relaxing resort type town on Lake Kivu. There is plenty of accommodation and Goma, DRC is a day trip that you can take from there.

And make sure you do visit the genocide museum on the Murambi site.

This place is has a bit of a dark past in relation to the genocide and the war with DRC. However, it is also stunningly beautiful. There are several excellent hotels by the lake sure and the hills surrounding the lake remind me of the Croatian coast more than central Africa. This is a great place to chill out for a few days.
