Saint Kitts and Nevis Travel Guide

Saint Kitts and Nevis consist of those two namesake islands. They were the oldest British colonies in the Caribbean.  While they are independent now, they still retain some ties to Britain as a member of the Commonwealth. Sugarcane production was a major part of the islands economy before and you can visit and stay in some of the plantations and manor homes from that era. There is also a chance that the two islands will separate into independent island nations in the future.

Saint Kitts has the Brimstone Hill Fortress, which is an 18th century fort that served as a major strategic stronghold in the Caribbean. In addition to exploring the fort, you can visit the museum inside the fortress. To view the island you can take a ride on the double-decker St. Kitts Scenic Railway, which takes a tour around most of the island.

Nevis is considered to be more laid-back than Saint Kitts and also contains several worthwhile sights. The scintillating Botanical Gardens of Nevis are an attractive sight. Also, the British naval hero Horatio Nelson got married on Nevis and there are several sights relating to him. Such sites include St John’s Anglican Church which contains his marriage records. Both islands have a number of good beach spots to relax at.
