The vibrant and colorful port of Castries is Saint Lucia's capital. Although it was founded in 1650, there have been several major fires that have destroyed most of the older buildings. In terms of older buildings, Castries does have the 19th century Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and other attractive buildings from the same period around the cathedral.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Castries
  02214Love St. Lucia, especially during the Creole Festival however; be prepared to pay between $30-$50 to travel around the island if you do not have access to your own transportation. Taxis are expensive however I would not drive on my own the first time visiting. It is a mountainous island with lots of twists, turns, slopes and locals going 60 miles/hr. Good tip?
