Like the Vatican City, the Republic of San Marino is an independent city state surrounded by Italy. It is one of the world’s smallest countries, stemming from an era when city-states existed all across Europe. San Marino’s landscape is dominated by Mount Titano of the Apennine Range, the base of which holds a well preserved medieval town complete with fortified towers, walls and pathways. This fortress is closed off to cars and must be explored by foot. Nearby, the Malatesta Castle at Serravalle and the coin museum at Borgo Maggiore are additional points of interest.

Travel Tips from people who've been to San Marino
San Marino has no taxes, so things are very cheap. Everyone will recommend you to buy staff in San Marino instead of somewhere else. Believe me, you can save lot of money bying there!

One of the most beautiful places in the world! You can see whole San Marino from the top of the mountain, where's gorgeous castle, btw.

Ok, this will be a short one, half way to the top of San Marino, there is the place which us locals call "Il birraio" (The beer guy), this guy has something like 100 beers to choose out of, and if you're not an expert , :-P , he'll teach you how to drink them (eg. how long they have to rest, temperature.. ). Ok, beer apart, the best thing is that if you hapen to be there on sat's or fry's between 7pm and 9pm you will find loads of free food. What we italians call "aperitivo" ! The place is great, the beer is not expensive and for my modest opinion is one of the best in the rimini-san marino area. You can find the place coming down from old san marino just after the Mc'Donalds on your right hand side.
