Senegal

Francophone Senegal is one of the most popular tourist destinations in West Africa. The capital of Dakar is the end point of the Paris-Dakar motor rally, and also contains the IFAN museum – a large collection of West African art and history that is considered to be one of the best in the region. Nearby Dakar is the Ile De Goree, a world heritage site that is famous for being a slave-trading base. The House of Slaves remains as a reminder of the dark past. For more cheerful excursions, there is the popular beach resort of Cap Skiring and the fascinating Lac Rose, which is a pink lake that changes colour to violet with the setting sun. Nature lovers can check out the Parc National de Niokolo-Koba, which is Senegal’s best national park and contains hippos, buffalo, antelope, and crocodiles, as well as rarer sightings of elephants, lions and chimpanzees. Finally, the Basse Casamance region in the south is notable for its tropical setting and different culture. However, separatist unrest has made the area unstable in the past.

Emotion... The place is small and simply beautiful. Arriving on the deck, you face a small beach were kids play and swim and you face the "hostellerie de Boufflers" which is a typical restaurant. This welcoming..

The whole island is a cemetery where Muslims and Christians are buried next to each other, between trees and hills.

Le Lac Rose is really worth a visit. You have to be lucky to see the lake in pink, it depends on the weather and the algae in the water. First take a walk around the salt piles, somebody will explain you how they..

"chez loutcha" in dakar was worth a daily visit and would even be worth a return to dakar: gigantesque servings, extraordinary taste, megalomaniac, fresh vegetables, steaming soups, mysterious and addictive spicy sauce... no reason to dine somewhere else in senegal's capital.

The women museum (musée des femmes) on Ile de Gorée is very interesting, especially when you ask for a guide. It's right in front of the slave house (maison des esclaves).

The French Fort has recently been restored and is worth a visit. Though you might have some difficulties finding the keykeeper (who's also an excellent, friendly guide). You might find him at the docks, or just ask around for him. If you don't find the fort ('cause it's not that easy to find), also just ask around.

Saint-Louis, Northern Senegal, Senegal
You might be disappointed when you go to Saint-Louis, 'cause the town isn't very cosy, doesn't have many pretty buildings, is surrounded by dirty water... For us it was kind of a disappointment.
