a lovely little coastal fishing village. Great place for swimming as the waves are not too violent. There's also a music and dance school there run by a European. Makes a good day-trip from Dakar.

is for people that like a good book at the pool, sea is dirty..the whole site there is terribly polluted..most of the animalparks contain import from South of Afrika because too dry and no wildlife/fauna. a big dissapointment that part of Africa, accept from the music history is not worthy of all those injections you have to get before you go..

stay away, there is nothing to see or do. only a boat trip to see some birds. people are a bit distant unless they want to sell you something

If you've never been to Africa, start with Senegal! People there are friendly, sincere, funny. Food is succulent and the landscape is just awsome! I love St-Louis for its colonial style (buildings), its fish specialities (food, food and more food!) and its nighlife! If u go/have been there, let me know how waw ur trip!

African people are really familiar and welcoming. Especially if you are part of their family! Dakar is an interesting city, a little chaotic but charming. Don't miss Goree (I''ll tell you about the rest of the caountry next year!)

Ile de Goree, Western Senegal, Senegal
While the island is historically interesting, the experience is marred by annoying sales people who will do everything to extract cash from you. I ended up speaking only Serbian and highly annoying one of the women, much to my delight. Food in the dock area sucks, as do the many flies who are all over the place. However, there is some charm in the desolated buildings, plus, after Dakar, this is a welcome change.

great place for big game fishing - ask for a man called 'Bola' at the plage de ngor. he's a local with reasonable prices and excellent fishing knowledge.

Toubakouta, Western Senegal, Senegal
It would be helpful to know French, Wolof, and maybe a bit of Sosse and Serrer. Beware of the high-end Belgian/French resorts at the NW end of town; they aren't the best for the community. Hike over to Soukouta at stay at Keur Bamboung, which is a eco-friendly resort run by Senegalese people. There are a couple places to get a cold Fanta, if you look hard. You can get here from Kaolack by sept-place or Ndegane-Ndiaye; look for the ones going to Karang, and ask to be let off at Toubacouta. There is a lady that sells some pretty good baignets on the other end of town, under the shade of a large tree by the health clinic. Toubacouta is a great place to get a pirogue to other parts of the delta.

Missira, Western Senegal, Senegal
Shittiest fishing village in the bolong. The Japanese built a very impressive fish processing center. There is a very large, very old tree that is something of a tourist attraction. The village chief is an extremely obnoxious Sossi man. There are lots and lots of flies, but the fishing business seems to be going well. This is a jumping-off point to other islands in the bolong, so you will see lots of overweight European tourists and the inevitable crowds of beggars. A good place to go from here would be the National Park and Bakadaji.

Food in Senegal
Sali, Western Senegal, Senegal

Drink lot of water you previously bought in a store! Go to the "Pink Lake". It is very beautiful, and the lake is really pink!!

"chez loutcha" in dakar was worth a daily visit and would even be worth a return to dakar: gigantesque servings, extraordinary taste, megalomaniac, fresh vegetables, steaming soups, mysterious and addictive spicy sauce... no reason to dine somewhere else in senegal's capital.
