Slovenia People & Culture
Koper, Slovenia U just have see their prison, what corruption does to people,it's one of the best acquiped and designed prisons in Europe-u know why, couse their maior is going there when he finishes runing the town, so he decided to build him self a home ;)) Good tip? (0) Ljubljana, Slovenia Slovenians are great people.
Ljubljana is so small. Don't stay there more than 1 day: But go to Bohinj, a lake not too far away Good tip? (0) Maribor, Slovenia Maribor, like the rest of this beautiful country shouldn't be overlooked. Many people skip over Slovenia on a European vacation, and some may have never even heard of it! Don't miss out on a beautiful country featuring everything from mountains to lakes to sea to countryside to cities. Not to be missed! Good tip? (0) Ljubljana, Slovenia The capital of Slovenia. Very clean and nice little city. You should visit Tromostovlje and the fortress above the city (the view is wonderful). The city is very well organized and safe. Prices vary from place to place, but Ljubljana is in general cheaper than Austrian or German cities. People are kind and most of them speak English and Deutsch. Good tip? (0) Celje, Slovenia Celje is an enchanting city, is really small...but people is so friendly! i really had a good time there! Good tip? (0) Ajdovscina, Slovenia This small Slovene town is renowned in the country for the buria, or Adriatic winds that rip inland from the coast making some of the best prosciuto (prsut) in the world, but also making the locals weigh down their roofs with rocks. Good tip? (0) Mokronog, Slovenia Mokronog is a rather small settlement in the Mokronog valley by the road and railway Sevnica-Trebnje in the Trebnje Municipality. It is surrounded by woody hills with vineyards. Good for a half-day visit. I spent the night there during my motorbike tour of Slovenia. The nucleus of the town is the settlement of multi-storey buildings by the road. I happened to arrive into the town during the traditional retailing and cattle fair. It was a welcome leap back in time. There are a few natural and culturally historical attractions in Mokronog and its surroundings, such as the old borough core, churches, pilgrimage trail, archaeological finds, vine growing hills and hiking trails. A pleasant, quick stop on your journey throughout Slovenia. Good tip? (0) Piran, Slovenia You clearly notice you're close to the Italian border here. Very mediterranean atmosphere covers the town. A contrast to the rest of Slovenia. Worth a visit for good atmosphere and the nice (not extravagant, yet nice) cultural heritage. Good tip? (0) Portoroz, Slovenia Eat fish food at Prego, i think, the owner is from Iceland. Located near the bridge to the grand hotel.
Relax at Kanela Bar and listen to rock n roll music, mainly Rolling Stones Good tip? (+1) Ljubljana, Slovenia I love this city, and that is roughly what its name translates into English. One of Europe's smallest capitals, but IMO one of the best. It's clean and tidy and very welcoming with music and singing and a relaxed atmosphere. Some great eating places too. Nearby Lake Bled has to be visited for the awesome views. I try not to repeat-visit any destinations but if I had to, I'd definitely come here again. Good tip? (0) Ljubljana, Slovenia there is one wonderful place i forgot the name, but it is in the same area where you can find a hostel which use to be prison earlier. The parties over there is most excited the music is alternative but people are really easy going and open minded.cool place Good tip? (0) Ljubljana, Slovenia For all the open minded ppl I suggest visiting "Metelkova Mesto", an ex-military barracks complex just by the railway station, which houses famous Celica Hostel and is a home to many artists studios (including Slovenian electronic music pioneers Laibach) and a whole bunch of different themed clubs with music repertoire ranging from newest electronic beats (techno, drumbass, dubstep, dub, mnml, ...) to rock, punk, raggea,.... The gay/lesbinan community is strong with two distinct clubs. Also featuring own Metelkova cuisine... City in itself. Good tip? (0) Lipica, Slovenia In Lipica lies the Lipica Stud Farm (the cradle of the Lipizzaner horse ). The stud farm was founded in 1580 and is one of the oldest in the world. In the period after World War II Lipica established its own classical riding school and has successfully performed with its horses at various equestrian events all over the world. Enjoy the nature, riding lessons on the back of amazing Lipizzaners, ride through the Lipica park in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, visit one of the oldest stud farms in the world and the permanent gallery of August Černigoj which features a collection of his most remarkable works of art, or watch the beautiful Lipizzaner horses dancing to music in the classical dressage riding performances. At Lipica are two hotels: Hotel Maestoso and Hotel Klub, a golf course, tennis courts, mini golf, saunas, swimming pool, gym and casino. Good tip? (0) Portoroz, Slovenia Eat fish food at Prego, i think, the owner is from Iceland. Located near the bridge to the grand hotel.
Relax at Kanela Bar and listen to rock n roll music, mainly Rolling Stones Good tip? (+1) Ljubljana, Slovenia Go to the tourist office and ask for the reduction cards. You will pay 15 euro for a book filled with reductions. You ou have 3 days to use them but its worth paying.
you can visit museums, rent a bike, drink something for free, and so on,... Good tip? (0) Piran, Slovenia Piran is one of the most beautiful world cities. It is under UNESCOs protection. Only locals can enter with cars, otherwise it's close for traffic because of the narrow streets covered with cable stone. It is possible to ride a bike or scooter inside the city. There are lots of places to stay. For young travelers the best option is a hostel behind a lighthouse. Good tip? (0) Bled, Slovenia not an amazing hostel, but amazing hiking and lovely lake. It's almost like a cut-price switzerland in relation to the landscape. Cheap beer and beautiful views, and very friendly locals. I'd recomend this as a stop off, but head to lake Bohinj for a truely breathtaking part of europe. Good tip? (0) Kobarid, Slovenia Kobarid is known for famous WW1 Battle of Caporetto. Beside amazing nature of the Soča river, you can find there a very interesting and informative museum of WW1, as well as remains form Roman times. If traveling in the area, a museum definitely is a must see. Plus, if you are aiming at good fish food restaurant, then have a must stop at the "Topli Val" restaurant, which is located few hundred meters away from the museum - they really serve quality food and are very kind, speaking several languages. From Kobarid you can continue to Nadiža river, isolated camp in Podbela, or to Robidišče, which is Slovenia's most western village. From direction of Robič toward south you can cross the border and enter to Italy, visit old town Čedad or Cividale, and further on to Furlanija or Friulia. In July you will find two reggae festivals in the area, Rototom Sunsplash in Osoppo, near Udine (IT), and Soča Riversplash in Slovenia. Of course this is also the area for hiking on the mountains above Kobarid and surroundings. Oh..and when you are in Kobarid, taste Kobarid štruklje, sweet pastry....mmmmm Good tip? (0) Ljubljana, Slovenia eh...tu sam bio prije par godina, a gradic...manji od zagreba...ne sjecam se nicega skoro... Good tip? (+1) Piran, Slovenia Don't bring your car (if you have one) into the city. There is a parking area outside of the town to leave car. If you choose to bring a car further in, the cost is extremely prohibitive (because there is very little parking area in the city proper). Good tip? (+1) Portoroz, Slovenia Eat fish food at Prego, i think, the owner is from Iceland. Located near the bridge to the grand hotel.
Relax at Kanela Bar and listen to rock n roll music, mainly Rolling Stones Good tip? (+1) Bohinjska Bistrica, Slovenia Bohinjska Bistrica is the largest village in Bohinj area. All the public buildings can be found there: bank, post office, market, grocery shops, boutiques, bars, library, church, health center and many more. Good tip? (+1) Bradt Travel Guides |
